Re: Different body proxy for odd and even pages...
I think you have to have 2 body proxies in the one master page - for one, set the Page Type (top left corner when you edit the Printer options) to Odd Pages, and for the other, set to even. I have to admit that I've not made this work properly, but then I've not put much time into it. I usually just ...

Re: Mini TOC proxy
I was able to change this by using the Flare style sheet editor and updating the style for "miniTocProxy". When I checked my style sheet I had an entry as follows:
miniTocProxy
{
border-top: none 0px black;
}
The entries that you mention I found in my output files (madcap.css), but I never ...

Re: Stylesheet lost when topic moved
No - I haven't seen this. Sorry for not being a very helpful post, but thought I'd let you know that this is not a general problem in Flare. I have 20+ projects and I can move files around in folders without any problem with the linked styles. My stylesheets are stored in the Resources folder and ...

Re: bookmarks don't move with text in Word targets
In Word, change the paragraph setting to have "Page Break Before" (menu Format > Paragraph > Line/Page breaks tab) rather than insert a manual page break, and the bookmark will stay with the heading. I turned this into a macro for easier post processing work.

Re: Sharing chapters across multiple projects
Hi Chris,
We probably all have a different opinion of what works best, so don't take this as set in stone - it's just one person's experience. I'd take a different path than the one you have suggested so far and have one project that generates all the required targets with conditions. I tested this ...

Updating to Office 2007
I have just updated my machine to Office 2007 and thought I'd share a few issues.
All seems to be OK - I had to uninstall and reinstall Flare after Office as it seemed to try and link to the previous version. This was no trouble. There might be a quicker way but the Flare installation was smooth ...

Re: Using external stylesheet
For the current version of Flare (v3.1) you have to copy the files from one project to another. We have set up a project template here with our style sheets included which makes it quite easy for new projects. We have 25+ projects and don't find a real problem with the manual copy/paste method.

Re: Cannot get TOC in Printed Output
I tried your project and the TOC worked OK for me. Flare generated a TOC entry as follows:
TOC \t "h1_Top_Header,1" \h \z \* MERGEFORMAT
and it picked up the chapter headings, which means it is picking up the Top Header styles OK. I did notice that you didn't have "h1.Top_header", or just ".Top ...

I learnt this one recently, in the following discussion:

You can use the following setting to make sure Word keeps paragraphs together - it's not the same as the "don't break rows" setting, but it might get you started.:

Re: Cannot get TOC in Printed Output
I'd check your style sheet first. For the styles that you expect to be in the TOC, the property for "mc-heading-level" (under Print Support) has to be greater than 0. If you are using the TOC depth for the heading level, what you might think is a level one heading may be relegated to a lower level ...

Re: Can you exclude images during an import?
I work with MS Word rather than Framemaker, but I think the import options are pretty much the same. You can manage this using CSS styles.

Thanks - I've learnt something. That parameter does set the "Keep with next" in Word. I tested with the style "GlossaryPageTerm" and all is fine.apply the "mc-page-break-after: avoid" setting for headings

You need to clear the checkbox for the Glossary in the skin that you use to generate the output. Open your skin and look on the Basic tab.

Re: What value do you use for your orphans and widows?
For Word output I don't think it makes any difference. In Word, "widow/orphan" is a flag, either on or off, you cannot say how many lines it should leave together. I think you can do that in in Framemaker. For Word, if the flag is set, then it won't leave one line by itself either at the top or the ...

The next thing I would check is the Printed Output tab on the target. In the Generated TOC section, have you got either "Use TOC depth ..." or "Inject headings ..." set? These flags, while handy, can change the heading levels in the output.

Re: Adding an image to all topics and background image to print
I would create a master page for each type of output - one for print and one for online. Then you can put the right image into the appropriate master page.
If you choose template, then it will only add images to new topics, not update existing ones. The master page option leaves you free to change ...

I'll start with the easy ones.
3. By the way, is there any way to select more than one item in the Project Organizer or Content Explorer?
Yes. In Content Explorer there is a button on the toolbar (2nd from left) that lets you Show/Hide files. It splits the Content Explorer view in 2 and you ...

Sorry - my mistake - just F9 by itself updates all selected fields. Shift F9 does show the raw code of the field.

Re: Cross references not showing correct page numbers
If you have added page breaks you might need to updated all the cross reference links (shortcut is ctrl-A to select all then Shift-F9 to update). You shouldn't need to add the breaks, though - I have generated Word 2003 output OK without having to do that. Were you getting errors there?

Does this mean if I named the book slightly differently from the topic it contains, this problem would go away?
No, sorry - it's the link from the book to the topic as well as the link as a separate TOC entry that is causing the duplication, not the label.

Yep - there is an extra step. You have to create an extra topic to include the TOC proxy. It's a bit complex, so start by looking up the topic "Creating a Topic for a Print TOC" in the help file (look under Features > Printed Output). If you still have problems, let us know.

Re: Unlink TOC entries
Open the TOC, select the book level entry.
Open the Properties for the book level (use F4, right-click, ...)
In the "Link" section just select and clear the link (there is no "Unlink" or "Delete" button), and click OK.
