We have just started to investigate ElasticSearch.
I will post when I have more details.

Re: Build Word target - Error 10086 Build failed
Does it build ok without embedding the images? Might be worth a try.
In the "olden" days, we'd create Word docs like that and then use a macro in Word to embed the images outside of Flare.
That macro can be found in the old knowledgebase.

I used to use SnagIT but have been trialling a tool called Greenshot - main reason is because it is free.
So far I am very happy with it - and yes, it can do torn edges.

Re: hyperlinks in variables
We have just started using javascript variables so that we can change them in a text file more easily - a side effect is that you can update the value without having to recompile Flare.

It was about a quarter of the price. Won't go into details as I would have to translate from Aus dollars, and it depends on what support - we have bronze. Also bought our main licences as a group > 5.
I think the build licence is worth the cost.

Re: Temporary and [my name] folders
I can't help with moving the Output folder, but we use GIT and we can ignore it. Our .gitignore file looks like this:

/Analyzer
/FileSync
/Project/Users
/.gitignore
**/Thumbs.db

We have also just started testing our process with TeamCity. We ended up buying a Build Licence for Flare - it is an extra licence but much cheaper.

Re: Recommended ways of debugging PDF styling problems.
I don't have a direct answer for PDF debugging, but as a workaround I usually send to Word first and have a look at the styles there. If there is a problem like justification you can often work your way back by checking the generated Word styles.
Might be worth a try.

You could try creating a new "medium", set the style settings you need and then apply it to just the output target you need.

We have a similar issue and have decided to go with using CSH (context sensitive help) links between projects.
It is not appropriate for us to keep everything in the one project. For example, we have dozens of applications that all need to link to a more generic Release process - we keep the release ...

There's no export function that I know of. I have used old fashioned copy/paste before, which gets everything except the status icons.

Unfortunately, it IS still the case.

Re: Any way to report on topics with or without identifiers?
In Reports, you can get a list of "Topics Not Linked By Map ID".
Try starting with the Empty report, and scroll to the CSH section for the Topcis Not LInked... option.
This would give you ALL topics not linked, not just those in your CSH folder, but is in alpha order and can be scanned quickly.

Re: Topic Toolbar in Top Nav Project
Unfortunately I can't duplicate your error. I can always access the topic toolbar proxy from a master page. I tried changing the primary target, but it was always available for me.
I added a master page from the factory settings and it comes with a topic toolbar already added - have you tried that?

Re: TopNav skin and linked projects
We are looking into this as well - that is, linking many projects. SideNav has the same limitations (but looks nice).
Our next trial is to try and incorporate ElasticSearch, but the powers that be have said this will cost us in licence fees.
Will do some testing over the next few weeks anyway ...

Re: Publishing editable Visio in Word output
Word can do that with an Embed field, but to get Flare to do that would depend on how you have set up the link from the HTML in the first place.
I have not tried this from Flare before - how have you set up the link to the diagram to start with?

Re: How to add new header (h7) to stylesheet
It's not Flare but HTML that has a limit of six heading levels.
You might be able to fake it by setting the "mc-heading-level" of your p.h7 style. Have a look at the help here:
