Re: formatting miniTOC entries as a list?

Hi Christine,
Yes, these style declarations seem to work fine in Flare 6.

If your miniTOC is not appearing at all, make sure your topic includes the miniTOC proxy. Also, you will need to select "Use TOC depth for heading levels" on the Advanced tab.

The autonumbers become part of the headings ...

Re: New book On Flare!

Hi Keith,
Sorry you've had trouble with Lulu. I've talked to many people in Canada, UK, Australia, and Japan (among others) who haven't had any issues with them. I've also arranged to ship books from Lulu to Canada without any problems. If it is easier for you, I can have them ship the book to you ...

Personally, I'm hoping for outputs for eBooks and mobile devices!

Re: New book On Flare!

Thanks, Matt!

Relationship tables are only covered at a high level--definitely not to exhaustion! That'd take 30 pages by itself! :lol:

I though about writing an advanced Flare guide earlier this year, but I'm going to wait until Flare 6. That will give me more time to gather content, and I can ...

Re: display all toggles when page loads ...

Hello!
onbeforeprint is a Microsoft-specific event, so it won't work in Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc.

One trick would be to set the print media in your stylesheet to force the display property to "block" for toggler content. Unfortunately, MadCap uses inline formatting instead of a class to show ...

Re: display all toggles when page loads ...

Hi--glad it's working for you!

I added the script to the bottom of my topic within the
tag rather than at the top in the
. I also didn't make it a function when I placed it in the topic. It just runs immediately rather than being called by an event like onLoad. I'd check to make sure ...

Hi everyone!
I've just finished updating the Flare course guides and certification test, and I'm now finishing updating my book for Flare 5. It should be available in a few weeks. :D

In the meantime, just let me know if there is anything you'd like to see covered in the book. I'll do my best to ...

Re: Generic class for marking reviewed text

Hi all,
You can apply more than one class to an element. The class names must be separated with a space. For example:

text text text

An element can only have one ID, however.

I haven't found a way in the XML Editor to apply multiple classes, but you can do it in the ...

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts for Applying or Unbinding Styles?

Hi Kevin,
It should work fine. You aren't using Flare v1, are you? :)

You need to right-click inside the link or content to see the menu I mentioned. It works for drop-downs, expanding, and toggler links.

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts for Applying or Unbinding Styles?

Hi Douglas,
You can use Shift-Ctrl-H to open the Style Picker dialog box. If the style you want to use is already highlighted, just press Enter. Otherwise, you can type the first letter of the style (for example, "h" for h1) to quickly select a style.

As for unbinding, you can right-click anywhere ...

Re: How to place Accordion Items to Horizontal Layout?

Hi Lisa,
I agree--buttons and tabs would be great options.

If you have 5 accordion items, you will definitely need to keep the images as small as possible. If you only use icons they'll be -really- small. Or, you could not use icons and only use labels. :)

Re: Setting Drop-down Text to Open Expanded

Hi Gary (and thanks, Mike!),

The variable definition:
var dDowns=document.getElementsByTagName('div');

needs to be on its own line:
///**/
var dDowns=document.getElementsByTagName('div');

That should fix it.

Re: How to place Accordion Items to Horizontal Layout?

I have an idea that might help:

If you have Capture, you can create variables for the labels (TOC, index, search, etc) in Flare and reuse them in Capture in your images. You can then create a target for each language, like "WebHelp Spanish," and override each variable's definition to the Spanish ...

Re: Adding PDF Files to a Project

Hi Michael,
If you copy your PDFs to your Content folder (or a subfolder) in Windows, they will appear in the Content Explorer. You can then link to them like you are doing now.

Here's a cool trick you can use: right-click your "images" folder in the Content Explorer and select Open Folder in ...

Re: Image maps not appearing in Word or PDF outputs

I think this is a great feature request.

Flare can convert basic interactive elements like hyperlinks to PDF, so it might be able to convert image maps too. FrameMaker can convert image maps to PDF, so I know it's possible.... :)

By the way, I tried another approach--adding a link to a DIV layer ...

Re: formatting miniTOC entries as a list?

Hi Matt,
Yep, that solution was only tested in WebHelp. However, I do like a challenge!

I have written a style rule that you can use for PDF and XPS. It won't work in Word or Frame. It probably works in online targets, but it uses a CSS property that isn't supported in most browsers. I recommend ...

Re: Setting Drop-down Text to Open Expanded

Hi Mike,
The script has 7 matching { and }s, so it should be OK. Here's what I think you are seeing:

XHTML likes for scripts to be enclosed by // and // comments. For example:

function myScript() {
//
code would be here
//
}

Flare likes to rewrite and rearrange that ...

Re: Setting Drop-down Text to Open Expanded

The following script will show/hide all drop-downs in a topic and change the link's text to "Show all" or "Hide all." You can customize it to use different link text or even link images (such as buttons).

Feel free to use it in your projects!

Link code:
