Re: Previous topic / Next topic toolbar buttons

*** UPDATE ***
Just to let you know that we upgraded to Flare v10 and that the navigation buttons are working fine so this is no longer an issue.
However we are experiencing problems with scripts for the compiled HTML Help output. A script is used in topics containing large tables, in order to show ...

Re: Previous topic / Next topic toolbar buttons

Hi Nita,
Thanks for your input. I am using Flare 8.1.2 and the Navigation buttons do not work for my three test browsers (IE10, Firefox 29.0.1 and Chrome 35.0.1916.114 m). We are not using IE11 as it currently causes issues with Juniper networks components that some colleagues use when working from ...

Re: Same image for multiple targets - removing "duplicates"

GIF does actually support transparency too, but it's very limited compared to PNG.
Totally agree with you there. I use GIFs a lot but they are not good when transparency is required, unless you know what the background colour is going to be, and you can "cheat" a bit by colouring some of the semi ...

Re: Same image for multiple targets - removing "duplicates"

Also, you can greatly reduce the image file sizes if you use PNG instead of BMP.
As Dave pointed out, you may want to revisit the format you are using for your images. We use GIF when no transparency is required and PNG when there is transparency. Both are compressed formats and their use has ...

Previous topic / Next topic toolbar buttons

Hi everyone,
I am trying to understand how the Previous topic / Next topic toolbar buttons work.

I produce WebHelp 2.0 (HTML5) outputs and have added these two buttons to the toolbar buttons.
They appear in my output, in two places: on the topic toolbar AND at the bottom of each topic.

However ...

Re: How to invoke WebHelp as popup?

Thank you both for your prompt and valuable replies.
I do not quite understand what invoking the help as a popup exactly means but from what you both seem to think, this may be linked to CSH. I will try and investigate (developers haven't assigned resource IDs yet so this will have to be put on hold ...

How to invoke WebHelp as popup?

Hello everyone,
I am relatively new to WebHelp, having been producing HTML Help for a good numbers of years now.
I have been testing my output in IE, Firefox and Chrome and have a query re: the size and position of the output window.
In the Size tab of the skin, is it good practice to enable the Use ...

Alternative to CHM output

I have been asked to investigate outputs that would be good alternatives to compiled HTML files, and I have a few queries.
We are trying to replace our CHMs with an online output type with a more modern look and feel and with less limitations.
I have investigated the matter and have retained 3 ...

Can custom TOC icons be used in HTML help?

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if it was possible to use custom TOC icons in HTML Help.
I am currently using the default HTML icons available via the TOC entry Properties dialog ( Advanced tab, HTML Help Icon ...

Re: Customers can't open .chm file, or topics don't display

We have a bug-tracking system that is also used to request enhancements and new features. This also covers help file bugs and improvements. Any help-related support case gets assigned to us. We do not get many help bugs, we get a few: typos, help out-of-date for a given functionality, request to ...

Ask our customers to lower their security settings? German customers are very sensitive about security ... and it sounded like at the company of MCHammer doing that is no problem.
Never mind - we don't have to find the cause.

Re: Customers can't open .chm file, or topics don't display

I asked my question wrong, I guess. I don't think that testing WebHelp output will bring any clues. My point is that making FF the default browser is irrelevant when facing CHM problems. So "testing the help files on the latest version of Firefox" made me wonder how CHMs are tested with FF and lead ...

Re: Customers can't open .chm file, or topics don't display

Testing the WebHelp output did not work? As far as a CHm goes, it does not matter which default browser is selected, because the CHM viewer will always use the IE rendering engine and adhere to the system wide Internet Option settings.
We only produce HTML help (I know, don't get me started on ...

One of my colleagues (same OS as me - Windows 7, 64-bit, IE8) is experiencing the same problem. He either gets an empty topic pane or a topic pane with some raw code in it. Everything works fine for me on my PC, for the same help files.

Jump button issues

Hello all
We produce HTML help files with a jump button linking to a CHM (which usually is a tutorial, also in CHM format, that can be found in the same folder as the CHM it is linked from). The Jump button options have been set at target level as we want to specify different URLs (=CHMs) for ...
