Re: Long PDF Build Time (v7)

[Solved]

I have a single topic that contains 1 table that runs over 200+ pages. When I removed this topic from the build it went back to 10 minute build times.

Still, this didn't affect v6 build times. Thanks for all suggestions :)

Re: Long PDF Build Time (v7)

Tried it on my PC at home and it took 51 minutes to build a 1200 page project. Am just going to try it on v6 to see what happens.

Re: Long PDF Build Time (v7)

Thanks for the suggestions.

We do have real-time scanning (trend micro) so I'll be testing the project at home in a guest and host env to see how that goes. We use SnagIt for our image capturing. I've got a high end gaming PC at home so I'll see how that takes to the PDF. Odd that it only affects ...

Re: Long PDF Build Time (v7)

Is this the sort of delay you are experiencing, or is it actually during the build?

I didn't experience these delays in v6 - only v7, though, like you, it seems to affect only one project thus far (our company's largest one). My delay occurs during the actual 'build', but I probably won't get a ...

Long PDF Build Time (v7)

Is there anything I should look out for with compiling PDF in v7 that would change my build time from approx 5-10 minutes to 90 minutes? (yes, an hour and a half). When building it gets slow when 'creating chapters' / 'paginating' (and the compile of pages after that).

- I use Flare locally (with ...

Re: How do you use Feedback Server and is it useful?

We use the product internally for review purposes. So I have no external experience as our docs aren't allowed online.

And I really do love the product BUT...

1. Reviewers can't seem to add comments if the folders+topic length is greater than 255 characters. So, for a straight Welcome or ...

Re: CHM Builds but Won't Run/Open

I solved this one by opening the CHM target, and in the General pane ensure that the STARTUP TOPIC is NOT set to (default).

So, if you set Startup Topic to a particular topic then you won't get that error when opening the CHM file.

I use conditional tags as well. With a p class to make it standout when included in the build.

Re: Feedback Server 3 Update

Hey there,
FeedBackServer 2 is actually running on a VM now.
I might just make a copy of the VM and install both, the question then is, how do I switch from version 2 to version 3?

My steps were:
1. I installed v3 on the same server as v2.
2. Run v3 (re-tested settings).
3. Uninstalled v2 ...

Re: Feedback Server 3 Update

Hi Oliver, can you run it up on a test or virtual machine first? As our environment is small and for internal use only, I had both installed at the same time until v3 was up and running (with little to no problems). I had no issues with both versions installed on the same system.

How Many Documenters?

I am one documenter, working just under full time hours on approximately (or should that be conservatively?) 5000-7000 pages of unfinished or half-completed work maintaining about 40 separate manuals from install guides (our work is software development), user guides and various other projects. I am ...

Re: How, oh how, can I convince my boss?

I would also try to determine if the boss has any (negative) issues with the current help and target those directly to them as well as adding 'it can also do this....'.

I'm not sure what RH costs so can't offer any options there but if you're doing multi-language then I'd ensure to give your boss ...

Re: Skin drop-down select available, even though no change

Hi Matt,

I raised some issues in January 2009 and with the release of Flare v6 I haven't yet had a chance to reinvestigate.

http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7973

We're still not currently using DNH although as noted in the post, it's still a priority. It does (unfortunately ...

If you do not have a maintenance contract you won't get an email for the new download. If you did and did not get anything it may have been tagged as spam or MadCap had a hiccup and never sent it. In any case, you did the right thing.

Is anybody using Version 2 of X-Edit? How is it?

Re: does anyone know what's in store in Flare 6

Glad the PDF issue is fixed (with v5 cretaing extra files and folders). Yay.

I was hoping a one file output of dotnet was on the cards but alas, no.

That said --- a lot of things seemed to be have been streamlined (especially inserting images). Haven't investigated them all but for the moment ...

Returned Review Files - Project Folder Location

My situation is that I've sent out a bunch of topics for review (in X-Edit) and we've recently acquired new hardware which means most of our project folder locations have changed. For Flare it's all fine and everything works - for our topics that are out there being reviewed (and there's probably ...
