One of the disappointing things about Capture is the lack of image editing tools.
You will have to edit the image outside of Capture.

Re: Removing inherited styles
The styles you are looking at are generic stlyes that people use within spans rather than using inline formatting. So, rather than highlighting text and using the bold button you can highlight the text and apply the em tag. Not much differencr, until the project sponser asks you to change everything ...

Re: TOC Proxy: How do I make this look right?
What you need to keep in mind is the TOC proxy is used by Flare when creating printed output. If you are creating output via Word (for example) the TOC proxy is where Flare is telling Word to build the TOC, and it's actually Word picking up the heading styles.

I was using Flare/ TFS together in my previous position, and I know what you are going through.
Flare and TFS do play nicely together, once they're properly "introduced". Luckily we had a whizz kid in charge of TFS.

I maintain a spreadsheet with all my common stuff on it (stylesheet, masterpages, "general" glossary, and so on) so I can keep track of the latest version of my common files.

Re: Can't source control .folder.props files in VSS
The props folder is sometimes hidden - if you've set Windows to show hidden files you will see them Have you tried removing the hidden attribute?
Don't know about VSS, but TFS handled the props file alright.

Re: Mass indexing with exceptions
Short answer, no (not thet I'm aware of).
Thinking about it, it would be very hard to automate index creation - that's why there are specialist indexers. Any given index term must occur heaps of times in any project.
That having been said, you can add a feature request here.

Re: error when trying to preview compiled topics
I've not had it, but standard advice is restart Flare, reinstall the DotNet framework (1 and 2), reinstall Flare to see if any of those fix the issue.

I can't give you an answer, but I can add an observation...
If you are working on a topic and you are at the bottom of the XMLEditor window, sometimes you get "unexpected" results. Try scrolling down, to move the insertion point closer to the middle of the editor and see if that helps.

If you open the topic in a text editor, does the text used in the heading say GD&T ot GD&T? I would expect the latter to work.

I did actually install it for all users. We are not using roaming profiles. Each unique student who logs into the machine is prompted for the key which is not a workable solution, obviously. Shouldn't is have been activated when I installed it?
