Perhaps the OP has the same issue I do. Here's how I leave Flare, with auto save on:

And here's how Flare loads up:

Once I drag the Index Entry and Project Organiser to the right, the Content Explorer is there.

Re: Paste function has quit working
Were you copying and pasting from the same source when it started working again? If not, try that source again. Perhpaps the issue is where the copy is coming from, not where the paste is going into.

How are you saving your images? If you save them as PNG instead of JPG, you save a LOT of space and there's no difference in resolution.

Re: After inserting picture, how to add space above & below it?
Hi Paul
That's a great tip, thanks! Up to now, I've used a style for image shots, but that doesn't help when I am using screens inline in bulleted or numbered lists. This make sit look much better, and with far less work.

Following up on Ramon's response:

The readibility gurus also say left aligned rather than justified helps readability as well.
Really? I can't stand looking at printed or on screen text that is only left justified. It looks cheap and the fringes on the right side are distracting. I wonder why ever newspaper in the world prints ...

I don't like doing different things in the help. I like to be as consistent and simple as possible.

Kevin, Ramon
I also have smaller sized chunks of the screens, as well as larger ones where necessary. However, I've always resized every screen shot to 80% of the original.

Re: Huge .chm file size
This is a very useful discussion for me!
I tested using 256-color PNG instead of JPG, and the screen does indeed look the same, and the file is 80% smaller. I just need to test on some more screens, because not all screens are using simple colors, and some could look worse.
There is also another ...

We haven't had any reported issues with Flare and 64 bit versions of Vista.
That doesn't mean that it works, maybe there is just nobody who bothered with Vista 64bit. I guess MikeKatz will then be the guinea pig. But by all means, geez, use something else other than Vista!

Re: To screenshot or not screenshot? (that is the question)
One other consideration is file size. I once created a WebHelp for an embedded system that was accessed via browser. Due to the limited storage capacity I was extremely conservative in regards to screen shots and for those that I added I used 256 colour PNGs just to keep everything as small as ...

I've moved in the opposite direction to most views here.
First, for manuals, I always have screen shots. I then annotate them to show the main features of each screen. Manuals are overview documents for me, they show users what they can do, not how to do it. And even then, we just show the major ...

Hey, Mike,
Have you tried turning on the "Show Files" button above the Content Explorer? This turns the CE into a two-pane window, and you can select multiple files in the right side pane.

I want to move images from one folder to another.
In the Content Explorer, I can drag each image individually to another folder, but it takes time, and I have hundreds of images.
Is there a quick way to do this?
