trending?

I would like to trend topic view or CSH calls, so that I can find out over the life cycle of the product and documentation which topics are getting the traffic, plotted over time.

Re: auto-number offset issue using ems

thanks Lisa. I am just trying to create a style sheet that will be a legacy item. I don't know what to do now, other than just tidy up the style sheet I am using and use all pixels, and put the ems stylesheet on the back burner. Linda

Re: auto-number offset issue using ems

Hi Lisa, I tried what you suggested:

span.mcautonumberclass
{
color: #696969;
mc-auto-number-position: float-left;
}

p.note_lisaSUG
{ mc-auto-number-format: '{b}Note:{/b} ';
mc-auto-number-class: mcautonumberclass;
margin-left: 2.8em;

}

This does not provide indented text. I think that ...

Re: auto-number offset issue using ems

Thanks, I will test that, but why does my method aka the Flare recommended way work with pixels just fine, and messes up with ems?

The help in Flare is pretty clear about setting the note to the outside head and giving the text an offset, which is what I do with pixels. And that is wysiwyg in ...

Re: auto-number offset issue using ems

Hi Dave, thanks. The autonumbers do look fine, that was my starting position without an offset for the text, but I don't get my text indented. I want the text of my steps, notes, tips etc. to line up under the text and the auto number portion, for example, Note: to be alone on the left, and the note ...

Re: Units of measurement - pt, px, em, ex, % or mm?

Hi guys, I am having a very miserable time trying to use ems, with or without the body font-size defined as percent or points.

I find that there is not good agreement between the Flare editor and the output. That is, the Flare editor is not exactly wysiwyg and items that align in the editor look ...

auto-number offset issue using ems

body

font-size: 100%;

p

font-size: .8em;
margin: 0.0em;
font-weight: lighter;

This provides a perfect note ...

Re: Units of measurement - pt, px, em, ex, % or mm?

This guy concludes that percentages do it best.

http://kyleschaeffer.com/best-practices/css-font-size-em-vs-px-vs-pt-vs/

This shows the differences between ems and percentages in a layout.

I am easily baffled, and I am also mathematically challenged ...

Re: Units of measurement - pt, px, em, ex, % or mm?

Okay, so, call me slow, I now see that I can zoom easily in all new browsers, with ctrl + or ctrl -, and this renders my concerns with scalability moot, doesn't it? My pixels, points, and inches all just zoom along fine, Firefox or IE.

I mean, I should clean up my style sheets, and get things ...

Re: Units of measurement - pt, px, em, ex, % or mm?

Yes, my reading has led me also to want to create body as a percentage and the rest as ems for online for sure. Can someone tell me why not? I was hoping to find a Flare best practices on this, or perhaps this string is it.

Here's my question: For PDFs, is it best practice to use only static units ...

Re: search results ranked?

Thanks for this! I see that so far, the Exclude Index Entries is not selected by default, so good to know where to look for that. (Peformance tab in the target, for anyone following along and interested.)
I had noticed that index entries that didn't match body were appearing well up in search ...

Re: search results ranked?

That's good to know. Thank you. I create webhelp.

I see my index terms returning in my search results, I have done a test to see if terms that are not in the text will appear in the search and they do. How are index terms weighted?

search results ranked?

There might be an obvious answer to this but I can't see it and I've been looking for a while. I have search enabled in my online help, and I have also indexed every topic.

In the Flare help topic, and a few other places, it says that Search results are ranked, not listed alphabetically. How does ...

Re: removing links from imported Flare files

Thanks very much for this. I will try and post a screen shot of what I am seeing and what my settings are in the next week. Re: removing links from imported Flare files

Thanks so much, that's all I needed to do. I just deleted all my import files through Windows Explorer et voila! no more links. So I will use this to create new projects. It's more convenient than copying and pasting.

Yes, I am having odd problems. I don't find reimport reliable, but I am not using ...

removing links from imported Flare files

I had the bright idea of running two projects in parallel. I thought I would use the import feature kind of like a branch and created a duplicate project, but without all the glunk from the past, just a selective import for the new project. Also, going through explorer meant I would have to remove ...

testing CSH calls is skewing my results.

I check all my CSH links on the live server. I do my searching offline, so that's okay, but I test and retest the entire suite of documentation, because I am not in control of development or UI and so I conduct random checks when I have time. This is skewing my results for CSH calls.

Is there a ...

Re: search woes

I feel like we are talking at cross purposes, I get exclude overriding include. What I don't get is an included folder overriding excluding a topic. I'd rather not have to condition hundreds of topics, but in fact I have to. I would like to be able to include at the folder level, and at the topic ...
