Re: search woes
The folder is conditioned "Install", which is included in the target. The topic within the folder is conditioned "Comment", which is excluded in the target. The topic shows up in a search, unless I change the properties. This doesn't make sense to my way of thinking. This means that conditioning to ...

Re: search woes
So my expectations were that an excluded topic would be excluded from the output if it was within an included folder. So all the other topics would be included, but the one with the excluded condition would not be included. Folder included, topic condition excluded therefore topic excluded. I don't ...

Re: search woes
I am seeing strange things. If I include the folder, but some of the topics are conditioned as comment, and I exclude comment, I still get the comment conditioned folders. I expect that the folder condition is overriding the topic condition, but that isn't very logical, as the topic should over ride ...

Re: Tables and mediums
to be clear, I am formatting the cell through the css and the table through the table style. Not the table style itself. But the tables from the table style now enter my topics with the formatting within the cells at least that I prefer. This is not the original problem, but something that has ...

Re: Tables and mediums
But I am using table style sheets. That's the thing, my table now comes in from the style sheet and the td class is now formatted exactly the way I want it, until I click enter in the cell. After I click enter in the cell, I have to apply the p.cellbody style, and everything looks the same. Also ...

Re: Tables and mediums
to be clear, when I create a table now (not sure about importing) it picks up the td style that I have formatted in the css. I didn't create a subclass.

Re: Tables and mediums
Okay, I am pretty naive so this might be obviously wrong to someone who codes on a regular basis. As far as I can see, you don't have to apply a style to each table.
I did exactly that to start, I created a p.cellbody tag because every time you press enter in a table cell, it creates a p tag ...

Re: layouts and section headings
very strange complication, Now all my variables are bolded. I have gone through the style sheet, print and non print and default mediums to remove font formatting. PDFs print with normal variables, but webhelp output cannot shake the bold format. I have tried deleting the subhead style class ...

Re: Exporting to Word
Nita, did you sort this out? I removed headers and footers and things look fine, for one offs of a couple of pages for editors. I will experiment with headers and footers at a later date. Linda

Re: screen captures: how to get the best quality
I am only using the images for pdf. I am capturing them full size, and then shrinking them in Flare, as I wanted to preserve the original. I will start paying attention to the sizes, but I am way out of my depth here, for the time being. I am assuming that if I capture and keep the image full size ...

Re: screen captures: how to get the best quality
In some cases, I am adding text and call out items, to clarify user steps, so I will keep the WMF difference in mind. Not that I have a clue, at this moment, what the difference between an image and a vector image is. As my life is now going all imagey, I'll have to read up.

Re: screen captures: how to get the best quality
I can't see how to capture or save as WMF in Capture, but it's included as a default capture format in SnagIt. I will start with SnagIt and pngs and make some comparisons with WMFs and see how it goes. Thank you all.

Re: screen captures: how to get the best quality

Re: screen captures: how to get the best quality
Thanks for that. I noticed that at lower resolutions, but didn't try higher. The other problem though, is that most people are printing the darn things and that's where I am getting the critique. We are just trying to cram more than one on a page, and that is presenting readability issues. We've ...

Re: screen captures: how to get the best quality
Thanks Nita, my graphic support here where I work has told me that the likelihood is that I've got as good as I am going to get. I am capturing screens and saving them as jpegs and publishing them through Flare as pdf, so they get a real work over. I am actually surprised that they look as good as ...

Yes, that's a better solution overall. I would have to create paragraph classes for these variables and I haven't done so. thanks Lisa.

Re: layouts and section headings
Have you tried to format a heading variable in the layout? I don't see a thing when I look in the Frames content panel. I see the code under the menu bar: MadCap:variable | b|MadCap:variable| b |i|MadCap:variable
The first two variables are visible in the editing pane, but the variable that I have ...

Re: layouts and section headings
Okay, well, I just selected the "empty space" and it seems to have applied a tag. First there was a lot of balking and exceptions thrown, and then I just closed out and did it again and it accepted the bridle, so to speak. Flare reminds me of a horse, a lot. No, no NO! STAMP! then I take some time ...

Re: layouts and section headings
Hi Lisa,
I am printing a largish document with many sections. I'd like the header to say not just Widgets 3.0, but Widgets 3.0 Installation and then in the next section of the PDF, the header would say Widgest 3.0 Configuration. The output I am looking for is identical to what you would get when ...

layouts and section headings
Is there any way to have the heading of a topic display as a subheading in a layout? Or better still, the headings in the TOC? So far, I have only figured out how to display variables for the whole document. I have a few documents that are hundreds of pages long, and I'd like subheadings. I can ...
