Thanks for posting that Nita! I will create a very minor layout for word and apply that.
We've been exporting to pdf and webhelp for a few years now and I keep working here for a few reasons, even though now I've moved and its a bit of a commute, and one of the reasons I am still here is to keep ...

Re: Exporting to Word
Well Paul, I certainly like your idea of starting from scratch with a CSS, which we've never done as we've just imported from FrameMaker and cleaned up as we went.
You were right, it was the body tag with the line height defined. This is a result of my totaly ignorance of styles sheets, I only ...

Re: Exporting to Word
Well, unless it's something hidden in the <p>, there wasn't a line height. We are exporting to PDF beeyooteefully, with no problems.
When Lisa suggested that the line height might have been the problem (I had checked everything else), I put one in and presto, that fixed it, although the layouts ...

Re: Exporting to Word
But before I specified line heights, the word out put was a page
for every
single
line.
I had 47 thousand pages in my out put. The line height cured that problem. What was the real problem? Can anyone tell me?

Re: Exporting to Word
All that has been done. The first thing I checked was styles in word and paragraph tags to see if they could tell me anything right off, and then my css.
I have no line height specified, so I will try specifying a line height for all mediums.
Okay so I did that. I specified a line height of 13 ...

Re: Exporting to Word
I have a super simple minded question. I can't seem to export a flare project to MS Word without every single line being on a new page. I did set up a separate target for MS Word. I have MS Word 2003. I have made this happen before a looong time ago, say, versions of Flare ago. I have Flare 5.0.1

Re: cross references and autonumbers
That is correct, Lisa, it formats it like this:
1. introductory text for the following nested text:
a.
b.
2.
What wasn't working was the cross reference to a book mark at the second level (for example a bookmark at a.) And today, Flare played nice and all is well. My skips look like this: "If ...

Re: cross references and autonumbers
DAve you beat me to it. TODAY Flare is playing nice and I get my cross reference to c or d or whatever I like. I heard Sharon Burton in the middle of a webinar say more than once, Okay, Flare is not playing nice with me. I have to say, I just have to accept that some days Flare does not play nice ...

Re: cross references and autonumbers
Hi Lisa, we imported everything from Flare, and the style for both autonumbers is p. Why would the autonumbering in a bookmark for xref work for p.step and note p.step2? The details from the CSS are below. I imagine you will tell me that Flare doesn't know how to increment alphabetically? Would this ...

cross references and autonumbers
I am using a style called skip, with the XRef Format step {paranum}.
I insert a bookmark in a step, and then I type Skip to, and I create cross reference to the bookmark. This works fine for first level steps. I can get a nice "Skip to step 5", with step 5 as my xref. It is not working for steps ...

Re: fact sheet production
Just thought I'd let you know that my solution for this problem is to use first, left and right page layouts, and include the copyright and logo information in the topic, and then I just hit enter to align it to the bottom of the last page. Clumsy, I know.

Re: fact sheet production
Thanks, I just got told about first pages and lo! there they are in the Page>Add Page in layouts. doh. Yes, a last page is my final request, and if I can use the empty page, so be it, but maybe that's all I need now.

Re: fact sheet production
Thanks Bob. I am not sure that the layout can be applied per page within a topic, but you have given me the thought to try a few things. I appreciate all the things Flare can do that Frame couldn't, but it would be nice to have an alternate way of printing one topic with different formatting for ...

fact sheet production
I'd like to be able to produce printable fact sheets, that is, single topics without cover or back matter, and I am wondering if you out there have some tips for me. Do I always need to use a toc? I gather so, as targets are associated to tocs. It's a little bit cumbersome at this point to produce ...

Re: How to localize Flare System variables
Sorry I don't have a solution, I have the same question, or rather, I want to customize date variables. Does anyone know how to do this? I can't seem to edit the system variables, which would be a nice start. FrameMaker gives the building blocks for date variables, but not surprisingly, they don't ...

print: different fonts not aligning in output
So this is actually a bug. I just talked with Ryan in technical support, and it's a bug specific to print only, as the web help uses a different engine to render and justifies the difference between fonts.
My solution for now is to use italics for ...

Re: text with different fonts not aligning
Thanks Lisa. I should have been clearer.
In the web layout, in the Flare project the text is offset, in the local preview and in the final product it is in line.
In the print layout, the second text is offset at every stage. We have submitted our CSS to CSS experts on our UI team, and they can't ...

text with different fonts not aligning
My normal text uses a sans serif font. When I apply a span code that has a serif font, it does not align with the paragraph text. This looks crappy and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do in the stylesheet to change this, except not use two different font families.
Can anyone help with this ...

Re: Indent a table in a topic
Just to let you know, adding a paragraph, pasting a copied table and deleting the paragraph tag still removed the table settings. It's all very weird. I am playing it safe, and inserting the table from now on. Thanks.

Re: Indent a table in a topic
Solved the problem by inserting tables, I had been copying and pasting, to put a new table in, and that is not allowed, apparently. It's crappy if you want a variation on the same content theme.

Re: Indent a table in a topic
Now I have another problem... which I had before, but was hoping would be solved by the spacing issue.
When I have two tables in a row, it seems that I need a paragraph tag between them, or the table around the text of the second table is removed, the text remains, but it is no longer in a box ...

Spacing a table in a topic
well, it's not so much indent the table as it is that I want to space the table evenly top and bottom from text. I imagine this is a style sheet issue, and I've tried a few things with no success. Shouldn't I be able to place a table in a topic, and somehow guarantee that it's space the same from ...
