Hi, everyone,
I'm building a new template for an expanded team/rebranding effort at my company. We have been using alert/note tables from various snippets. To create a note, we insert the appropriate snippet, convert it to text, and enter the note text.
The tables each have 2 columns with the ...

Re: Too many headings in my printed TOC
I'm not sure that will work. We use bookmarks on some of our headings and have some experience with including bookmarks. When we included bookmarks in the PDF, they got generated at the bottom of the Bookmarks pane, not where the heading would be in the TOC.
Also, every bookmark in the document is ...

Thanks for taking a look at it, Lisa.
It really is a superficial element. It's the same amount of effort to use an image and less troubleshooting--I will go that route.
I appreciate your help!

Re: Checkbox snippet doesn't show up in PDFs
I don't know! I took over the template from a writer who left the company. She's also looking at it to see if she has any ideas.
This the snippet code (if that helps):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<html xmlns:MadCap="http://www.madcapsoftware.com/Schemas/MadCap.xsd">

Checkbox snippet doesn't show up in PDFs
I've been trying to figure this one out during every spare moment today.
We have a snippet for a checkbox in our template. It looks great in online help formats, but it disappears in PDFs. Typically, we use it in a table as part of a checklist, but it doesn't work in PDFs in a paragraph either.

Re: Headings changing sizes and starting their own pages
I had the same heading issue. I wouldn't create a subclass for h1 though.
See my post from today: http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... 032#p62905 about how I fixed it my projects.
I can't answer your question about Word imports though.

Diana

Re: Too many headings in my printed TOC
We also use h1 for each topic, as each topic is an entry in the TOC. This is what I did to fix my headings for PDFs:
In my CSS, I created new heading subclasses exactly the way I want them for online (non-print) use. My new subheadings are called h2.NotInTOC , h3.NotInToc , h4.NotInToc . They are ...

I need to edit initials for my annotations, too. Does anyone have a solution for this or is this an enhancement request?

That's just what I wanted to hear! Thanks so much for the quick replies.
We do work on projects locally, so it is a question of import time for our remote writer. It doesn't sound like it will too painful for her. :) I'll get her to test it.

Global projects on a network drive
There are 4 of us on a team (3 here and 1 in another state). I'd like to implement global linking for our template and other shared content on our network server. I'm sure it would be great for us local writers, but I'm not sure how painful it would be for the remote writer. She says the upload ...

Re: Unable to import from global project
This may be a long shot, but it could be the .png file. I read in another post about someone having trouble with PNGs in a different area, but when they open the PNG in a different image editor and save it, the file works. *shrug*

Re: How to get bookmarks pane look like ToC
I think I found a solution to this. We also want to use our TOC as the way the PDF bookmark pane should look, but the way Flare generates bookmarks from the various headings complicated it for us. We created p.Subhead styles to prevent our subheadings from being added to the PDF bookmarks, but the ...

I second that!
We tried to get our SMEs to use X-Edit, too--exact same response. They want PDFs they can annotate.

Moving many topics in Content folders without breaking TOC
I have 24 docs in a merged CHM help system that I have just moved into Flare 5 from HTML source files. When I built the projects, I put the topic files in a folder within the Content folder (Content\HTML). I have just learned that the developers needed the files to be in Content with no subfolders ...

Re: MadCap Logo (that big round one) - changing
I read the part about disabling the other tooltips somewhere in the forum, but I haven't needed to try it myself.
I called tech support to see if I missed a setting somewhere for the logo tooltip. Ryan opened a bug/enhancement for me, so I'm sure the fix will show up in a future release at some ...

Re: MadCap Logo (that big round one) - changing
That doesn't work. If there is nothing at all in the setting, the tool tip says Logo icon . If you put just a space, it says null . If you set the text to None, it says, None .
There really should be a way to disable that tooltip--you can disable all the others. If there isn't a way, then I think ...

Thanks, Dave! That javascript is exactly what I needed--I want to keep the logo but not the display box.
I just noticed the logo has a tooltip that says "Logo icon." Where do I disable that, too?
I know I've seen that setting somewhere, but I can't find it now (of course).
Thanks,

Is anyone using PDF viewers other than Acrobat Reader?
We're getting ready to create PDFs in Flare 5, and I'm wondering about other PDF readers/viewers that can be freely distributed without the 40 MB download and installation required by Adobe for Acrobat Reader 9. Customers could install it themselves--pretty standard.
However, our installers need ...

Sudden problems editing Alias files
Yesterday, Flare 5 decided to crash every time I tried to create or open an alias file in a project in which it previously worked. I tried another working project, and it also crashed. (Flare hangs as if it's trying to open the file, but then unceremoniously closes.)
Both projects were migrated ...
