Re: How to make Flare compile faster

Use the Deferred Procedure Call Latency (DPC) checker from http://www.thesycon.de/eng/free_download.shtml and the sysinternals procexp utilities to verify that there are no driver-related problems on the slow system.

mmmhh ... my "system" is slow only with Flare 4 (now 4.12). And at compiling ...

Just to clarify, you are talking about buttons that go to the Previous and Next TOC items, not the Forward / Back browse history buttons, right? (These are two separate functions that people sometimes describe as if they are the same thing).

Re: Prev/Next buttons Inactive at Launch

I'm not sure that HTML Help is that smart, unfortunately. M$ developed it back in the Win95 / 98 era and hadn't really figured out how to be web-compliant at the time. (That's RamonS's cue to say they still haven't, natch... which is true enough, but beside the point.) Since these buttons are ...

Re: Shortcut control swallows the object that contains the link?

It has reached an even more remarkable stage, but I have found a workaround now:
I make a snippet out of such a shortcut, because we will need those shortcut links in a number of places. But if I insert that snippet I cannot see anything ... really nothing to see!

Luckily those shortcut links don ...

And it is a "sometimes-I-do-the-job-function" of VSS or of Flare? Is it worth a bug report or do we have to live with it until at least the next version of VSS is installed?

Code to standard and cite the W3C documentation when complaints arise. That is the way web design has to be done. Anything else is just bringing excuses for doing a crappy job.

Re: Flare WYSIWYG and actual output

If you want to learn more about HTML, there are plenty of books out there. Plus http://www.w3schools.com/default.asp is a good learning site. I'll often go to W3's website, too, for reference ( http://www.w3.org/ ).

"Deleted" files appear as "pending add" for other users

Hi there,
we are frequently angered by the following fact:
If one user deletes files, other users find them in their list with the status "pending add" - and that a lot more often than with the status "deleted" which is the correct status. That occurs with Flare 3.1, 4 and 4.1 ...

Is that a fault ...

Re: unordered lists : bullet settings

Maybe a trick would work:
Create a gif with the bullet and insert a few pixels of empty space above the bullet:

But I don't know, whether that works - never tried it ... maybe it just increases the line spacing ...

Re: How do I add a style class to a snippet?

I want to assign a style to a snippet that has been inserted into a paragraph. I would like to assign a different style depending on where the snippet is used.
For this approach I assume: Your snippet is an inline one and that "depending on where the snippet is used" means in different topics.

Re: Any way to get glossary term to open into a new window?

Are you building web help or HTML help?
For a HTML Help there might be a solution:
Don't use the "glossary" but create a topic for each glossary term and build a separate glossary help. Build it with a skin without navigation pane. And start the glossary help via shortcut link:
program: hh.exe ...

Re: Unable to find why Background Image displaying

There is (was?) nothing wrong with RH, not with "Classic" and not with "HTML". Not for nothing RH was the leader of the pack for years.
If you had used "RH HTML" Flare wouldn't be new to you - they are pretty similar. But I agree that working in Word and working with HTML or even XML and style ...
