Re: Flare 4 slower than Flare 3.1
Uhm, for it to be a valid XML tag I miss some < and >...I guess the compiler misses that, too. Since it is a warning it will eventually compile (I think). You should see these warnings in the Flare status window as well. Could it just be that something gets goofed up in the HTML files and the ...

Re: Flare 4 slower than Flare 3.1
I have found a file called _Temp.hhp - maybe that's the one?
I opened it in the HTML Workshop and created a .chm file. Here's the result:
html-workshop-compile-test.gif
I did get messages though. They look like this for ALL .htm files:

No. Nothing there - in no project, whether I touched it with Flare 4 or not. No .hpj file can be found. Not by explorer ant not by total commander.RamonS wrote:The file is in the temporary folder in the output folder.

Re: How can I switch off autmatic update of Flare help files?
Sorry. I've never had the Flare help files update like that, so maybe I have this option turned off somewhere...I'm not sure where, though.
Or maybe you go online without you noticing? I only notice because it needs an account to have internet access and the prompt for the login pops up each time ...

Re: Flare 4 slower than Flare 3.1
How long does the compile take when you do a manual compile of the .hpj file in the output folder? That time should be identical to a project created from 3.1. If not, then it isn't in Flare's hands anymore unless the generated .hpj project files are drastically larger than in 3.1.
I don't have ...

In our case it's about building a chm: It takes 2 to 4 times as long as with Flare 3.1. We have tried it on two different PCs with almost the same result.

Maybe I've missed something but I don't recall Madcap saying that one should not go back to v3.1 after upgrading to v4.0. I've seen it first hand where the stylesheet gets blown away and it's a doozy. Someone could really hose themselves if they weren't careful.

Looks as if you don't like MS.
But that's not the problem - the same MS product was able to interpret the overflow setting last week and isn't able to do it now ...
As you say MS didn't change anything - so it must have been MadCap ...

That I don't know either...one more reason not to use proprietary, unmaintained formats.
It's not proprietary, but standard. It worked for years already and this is what the best German website for web technology says:

Wow, interesting characters. Here are a few things that I'd check:
- do the affected image file names include 'special' characters (Umlaute)?
no.
- take a copy of the V3 version of the project (I hope you made a backup) and try to open it again with Flare V4 as a new project, then compile

A few of our images cause errors on compiling ... I get the message right before compilation should be finished, means, everything's fine for about half an hour (compilation time increased heavily, but that's another post). The messaege tells me, that there is sth wrong with the HTML Help Compiler ...

Re: Possible to work with Flare 3.1 and 4 on the same project?
There were a few threads here that came to the conclusion that it isn't a good idea to do that, but it is also not totally impossible. The problem is in how Flare names the custom styles (see for example here: http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7023). There may be other issues ...

Possible to work with Flare 3.1 and 4 on the same project?
Hi there folks,
has anybody tried it yet? Or do the MadCappers know?
We are 6 tech writers working on a good handful of projects. Do we have to install Flare 4 all at the same time or can we still work on the projects using Flare 3.1 AND 4?
THANX!

We had that problem lately, too. One of our developers could easily help out with the solution:
