You could stuff the xref into a div with a certain class id.
Then you insert a javascript into the masterpage that grabs those divs "onload" and checks the content: Is it a link? If it isn't => set the display of the div to "none".

If you have topics in several folders that you want to select at the same time, you will finde the file list useful (View | File List)

Maybe the topic is very long or has a complex structure (e.g. lots of dropdowns and/or tables and/or a javascript)? If it takes a long time to load it might well be, that the TOC is build and/or updated before the topic is loaded and by the time the topic is available, the TOC has been done ...

I think the auto-sync needs tons of programming and if they changed sth from 7 to 8 it might not work with your browser, at least not in the browser version you use or with the settings you have or ...

Does the auto-sync work in the same browser if you build the help with Flare 7?

In your heading you refer to dropdowns. That's an issue as long as Flare exists. For some obscure reason MC "castrates" the class and tag list ...

My un-elegant solution was to create a snippet of the content and make multiple pages so the breadcrumbs would display properly. I'll give everyone a moment to stop cringing... :wink:

we have a PDF in our project and in a topic we link to it. - That works fine.

The problem we have is:
Whenever we import a project from the Visual Source Safe database, the PDF can be viewed in the project without problems. BUT: When we build a help (HTML Help), the PDF can be opened in ...

I once had a problem like that too. The reason then was the open index editor, because Flare scans the project to find the keywords to update the index - and it did that each time I saved a topic ... closing the index editor helped a lot.

Thinking about it, that solution isn't going to work either - because the filenames of the Chinese topics have to remain identical to the filenames of their English equivalents so that hyperlinks/cross-refs are maintained. You can't have files with the same name in the same project.

Honestly - I don't see the problem there ...
Why don't you copy the translated files - and only those - into the updated project and leave the stale english files in the "translated project"? Or is the structure of the project too chaotic to find them? Then maybe you ought to change that ...

I agree with David ( :shock: did I really write that?): Do not run Flare in a VM without urgent neccessity.
Considering the current hardware prices I wouldn't use my main software in any VM, but rather suggest to get a separate laptop or sth like that. - It's a matter of efficiency. In a VM ...

Eliminate the "regular" scrollbars ... overflow: hidden ... for html or for body - can't remember which one - or, just to make sure, for both ... otherwise you might get two scrollbars.

I use a javascript that rewrites that sort of links so that the whole topic is reloaded when a link like that is triggered. "Ugly" side effect: All other dropdowns in that topic are closed ...
There might be a way to carry the information which dropdown is open and which one's closed ...

Would really surprise me, if Flare looks in a specific path. I think it looks the application up in the registry, where the path on your computer is given.

You can set the breadcrumb proxy to display: none in the print medium.
OR
You can assign a condition to it that you eliminate in the print target.

Both ways should work ... although what you described is something I'd call a "bug".

Your basic layout is a column of text and white space beside it?
Then you can simply tell your body tag to have a margin-left. That leads to everything else only use that space, since the body tag is the parent for everything els you see on the page.
