Re: Flare 7.1: What is your fix count?
Zero for me but bugs I have reported have made this release so I'm very happy!

Ahh, see, that's why I need tea! I think I need to get the workflow for both of us nailed down, but, that's definitely an avenue to explore. I have a Contributor license I could allow my colleague to use IIRC.
Thanks! Another excellent idea I can explore and propose. Got to love company ...

Interesting idea, I don't know - I will see RoboHelp for the first time in an hour or so, I will find out. First, more tea before the jet lag catches up with me...!

Okay, I'm in the situation where I have a Flare v7 license and love it. I need to collaborate with another author who uses a relatively recent version of RoboHelp (I'm not sure exactly which one yet).

Re: Concept Link Script Problem
Hmm, I solved it by deleting this registry entry:

From here:

Concept Link Script Problem
Morning,
I'm having a problem with Concept links in a CHM file. They work fine in webhelp, but not in the CHM Target. When I click a concept link I get a scripting error (see screenshot).

Re: Glossary deleted but get error when compile
Hmm, it would be worth looking at Skins and Target in the internal text editor to see if it's still lurking in there. I've had this happen if I delete something, say update links but something goes wrong and thus the Target appears to no longer reference it, yet, when probed, it's still looking for ...

Can I put Xrefs in Callouts?
Okay, I think I already know the answer, but in case I'm missing something... does anyone know if I can put cross references from my Flare project into callouts in Capture? Thanks...

Re: Operation Rename Failed: Object reference not set.....
I'm just posting to let anyone else know (and me in 6 months time when I've wiped my brain) that I solved this by deleting the contents of the "C:\Documents and Settings\user.name\Application Data\MadCap Software\Flare" folder for XP.

Re: TOC Levels and Page Numbering
If you have the luxury, I would strongly advise you to skip Word output and go straight to PDF. Word does some horrible things to CSS as well as ignore whole chunks of it. PDF output looks great, Word output on the other hand looks "okay" but needs a lot of tweaking to make it look even remotely ...

Re: "Root element is missing." when importing a PageLayout
Has the layout been in Source Control at all? I would open it in Edit ++ or similar and check the first line, see if a UTF-16 encoding mark has made its way in.

My blood pressure was waxing and my high opinion of Flare was waning, until I read this thread.

Re: Error message when opening topics
Have you got a master TOC and master Target defined? Even if you have - redefine them. I've got this vague bell-ringing that I've seen this before and it was due to a master something-or-rather becoming unset.

Styling <MadCap|helpControlMenuItem>
Morning,
I would like to make my pop up on the Concept link adopt some aspects of the one in the Flare help. I've got as far as playing with the <MadCap|helpControlMenuItem> style, however I'm stuck on a couple of things:

Re: Flare 6.1 makes ugly PDFs on one computer, but not another?
Yep, Calibri doesn't come pre-installed on XP, it first shipped with Vista. I believe if you download the compatibility pack then this will put Calibri on the XP machine and might make your PDFs beautiful once again.

Re: Need to transfer Flare to a different computer
Andrew is correct as far as I know. You can install Flare on a 100 computers if you want with the same key, just don't use more than 1 instance of it at the same time. There's no de-registration process... at least, I'm on my fourth or fifth Flare installation on PCs, that I use or have used and it ...

Re: Using one stylesheet for many deliverables
Yes, I do it the same way Nita has described. I have a couple of CSS files in my master project (depending on the client), the same project also contains page layouts, master pages, conditional tags and a glossary amongst other fun things. For each slave project I create a Flare import file that ...

Re: Error Message: Failed to load Master TOC
Firstly do you have a Master TOC defined? I've noticed Flare will sometimes just get rid of it and there won't be a master one at all.... that's probably not the issue though.
If you do - open the file in a text editor and check the root level XML tag is correct, like:
<?xml version="1.0 ...

Re: error message
I've seen this before... I think I solved it by resetting the Windows Layout. It's worth a go, select Window > Layouts > Reset Window Layout. This restores your windows layout to the factory setting so you may have some dragging around to do!
