Re: Do you want to start the "Convert to XML Wizard"
I could understand if this were an .htm file I copied or imported, but no, it's a topic I created in Flare by clicking the little new topic button. It's clearly a bug here.

Do you want to start the "Convert to XML Wizard"
When I click on a topic, sometimes I see a little dialog box that says "The file is not an XML file. Do you want to start the "Convert to XML Wizard"?"

Re: Compiling webhelp from Flare Working Natively in SharePoint
Thanks for your responses. I tried mapping drives for the output folder as well, but I still get the same error message. It surprises me that, given that Flare is not a new product and that SharePoint is so common in corporate settings, there isn't more information on this. Oh well.

Re: Embed Full Search field on a Masterpage?
Using Dave's script, I got the embedded search to work. I had to use the absolute URL rather than the relative one. However, the search is problematic. When the user searches for a word in the search field, the search loads in the navigation pane, which is fine, but the help topic displayed ...

Re: Compiling webhelp from Flare Working Natively in SharePoint
We're just using SharePoint as a storage location, so yes, to open Flare, I'm basically going to \\sharepoint\site\project.flprj.
I was trying to generate the build to another SharePoint file location when I received the error. I don't have any issues generating it from my local machine.

Dave, thanks for much for posting this how-to information. (Sorry for my slow reply -- I was on vacation.) I'm going to try to implement this today and will report back later.

Compiling webhelp from Flare Working Natively in SharePoint
In an inexpensive attempt to work off of a team drive, we're trying to run Flare off of a SharePoint document library. I can open and edit a Flare project that is located on SharePoint easy enough, but when I generate the webhelp, I receive the following error message:

Embed Full Search field on a Masterpage?
How can I embed the search field on a masterpage for a webhelp output? Currently, the only thing I can embed in a topic is the quick search, which looks only for keyword matches on the current page. I want to embed the full search field in a similar way, either on a topic toolbar or in the ...

Re: Strange characters appear in webhelp output
I have a resolution for this issue now. I think it's related to WebSphere (the software running our servers) rather than SVN.
A developer explained that in the web.xml file, there's a CharacterEncodingFilter. You have to add "forceEncoding=true" so that it looks like the following:

Strange characters appear in webhelp output
When I publish webhelp, transfer it to a subversion repository, and then try viewing it in Firefox, there are strange characters that appear.
If I just view webhelp locally, without transfering it to SVN, I don't have this problem. Can anyone help me sort this out?
Tom

Re: Table Style--Print Suport
Hmmm, I guess I'll just live with rows breaking across pages. I have a Word macro I use to clean that up. However, my macro creates another problem: it creates header rows that sometimes get orphaned. I posted a screenshot here: http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8926

Re: Table Style--Print Suport
Actually, I thought the page-break-inside would make it so rows wouldn't break from one page to the other, but it's not working for me. I'm generating a Word output. In some cases, the text in the table row just continues to the next page. I have the page-break-inside property set for the tr tag in ...

Table's header row orphaned in print output
When I generate my print output to Word, the header row of my tables sometimes gets orphaned. See the image for an example. What can I do to fix this so that the header row always is kept with the next row?

Broken Links Even After Flare 'Updates Files"
When I rename folder titles where my topics are stored, Flare tells me that it's updating the links. If I update several folders in a row and click Yes to update the links, and then run a report for broken links, there are a lot of new broken links. Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong, or is ...

Just wondering if there is any way to permanently disable that error message nag.
I'm behind a firewall, but not connected to VPN. Still get the prompt. No other licensed application on my computer prompts me with messages like this.

Thanks Ryan for the workaround. I ended up implementing something else, which I described here: http://www.idratherbewriting.com/2009/01/08/flare-context-sensitive-help-%E2%80%93-focusing-the-minimized-help-window-back-on-top/

Make Context-sensitive help window come to top
I've implemented context-sensitive help with a webhelp application on a java platform. I'm calling the help like this:

However, this method is somewhat problematic. If the user doesn't close the help (just minimizes it or clicks on ...

Chapter Header Variables Won't Be Italicized
No matter what I do, my chapter header variables won't be italicized. In my page layouts, which I use for printed output, I inserted a Heading Level 1 variable (to show the name of the chapter the reader is looking at). I wanted that heading level 1 title to be italic. So I created a variable style ...
