Re: Strange happenings when using variables

Havn't seen this type of issue, but we do have similar variables. Did you try cleaning the project (Build | Clean Project) before building? That sometimes helps when strange things happen. If it is still a problem, it could be a stylesheet issue. Did you try View Source on the HTML Help file, to see ...

Re: Command line build causes window of HTML help incorrect

This does not seem to have been fixed. Using Flare 5.1, and still get intermittent "small windows". Sometimes, it builds without a problem, othertimes we get the small windows in the upper left of the screen. We thought it was a resource issue, but it just occurred after a reboot. Very stumped at ...

Re: How do I stop the flicker between frames?

I found this as well. Any object with a life span WILL end, and restart on the next frame. Easiest way to fix it is for each object that needs to transition, to uncheck the time span option. Then, no flicker.

Note that because of this, you can only make object vanish at the end of a frame, if you ...

Re: Analyzer and List Dependencies

Like I said, I copied it locally and opened it to do the long scan (about 50 minutes); then closed and reopened them, first the local (18 min) and then network (22 min). So it was not the initial scan.

I tried shutting off my antivirus as well. No change. I even tried removing the copy from source ...

Re: Analyzer and List Dependencies

Just as a test, I copied all of the files to my computer, opened the project and let it scan completely. Then shut it down, and opened each copy one at a time. I noted what time the scan began, and what time it finished/started on the advanced scan.

The local copy took 18 minutes to do the initial ...

Re: inseting a video file

I think he wants to insert the movie file (avi, wmv, etc) as part of the Mimic file, so it would render as part of the SWF file. Not insert it into a Flare help project. I also wasn't aware that this was not possible, so I'll be submitting a request as well. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: 'Button' to skip to next frame

You can add an actual button (using the Button Mode option on the toolbar), or you can add an image or rectangle, then change its Action (in Properties) to GotoNext. The button looks nicer since it acts like a button (animates on mouseover/click), but they all function identically.

Re: Analyzer and List Dependencies

The half hour timeframe is when opening an existing project that has already been scanned by Analyzer. The initial scan in Analyzer (when we first installed it) took over 2 hours. All files are stored on the server, so they are opening remotely, but it has been the same since we created the project ...

Analyzer and List Dependencies

So, we are getting ready to add new topics to the Help system, and I found out one of the topics needed to be retired. I remember that Flare has a Find Dependency function, so I can easily tell what topics link to the one we want to get rid of. Great, back in Flare 3 (the last time I needed it) this ...

Wrapping before a slash

We have a couple topics discussing command line parameters, and noticed in the output that if a line contains a word with a leading slash, that is is wrapping the line on the word before that. I have attached an image of this. Is this something anyone else has encountered?

Clearing History for Popup windows on close

We found an issue, and wanted to know if anyone has an idea of how to fix it.

When using a hyperlink with a target of "_Popup", the output correctly opens in a popup window. However, if there is a hyperlink in the target file, following that hyperlink then closing the popup window will, upon ...

Re: Version 3 -- doesn't show all animations

What animations are you using?

I only ask because we were having an issue with fade out animations not working properly, but worked around this by using an overlayed image with a fade-in animation instead. Every other animation we have attempted works without a problem.

If you create a new frame ...

Re: Webdings font not printing in PDF

How are you changing the font for that character? Do you have it as <font face="Webdings">`</font>, or are you using CSS as <span style="font-family: Webdings;">`</span>? Are you embedding the font in the PDF? (I guess I didn't check if Flare does this, but its something we had issues with when ...

Re: Find and replace index keywords?

Unfortunately, this is the reason why a separate Index keyword file would be useful. We've had to edit index keywords several times, because they were capitalized or had different sub-keywords, so searching and replacing was not viable. I really wish Flare had a TOC-style index keyword file.

Re: Central stylesheet shared by projects

What we have is a seperate project which consists of the topics shared by all programs, as well as the stylesheet and common javascript file. This is linked to each project, so that it imports the most common stylesheet (and topic) changes before each build.

The biggest hassle was going through all ...

Re: Search not working + CHM file size too small

When we encountered this problem, in addition to reregistering the DLL file, we needed to add the HTML Help Compiler path to the system variables. Apparently, Vista didn't allow it to be added when we (re)installed the HTML Help Workshop. After recompiling the CHM, no problems.

We have recently (Jan 2009) stopped supporting Win2000, but we still have end-users with Citrix and Terminal Services which (in some cases) are still using IE6. As of next January, however, IE7 will be our minimum requirement.

Re: Non breaking space is...breaking.

We had issues with this for our titles on topics, which could not wrap but were, even using non-breaking spaces. We ended up putting them in a <nobr> tag, just to keep them from wrapping on non-alphanumeric characters. I believe you can also set a style on the tag (such as your <b> tag) of "white ...

Re: Importing from a Project: Local is Newer

You can try doing a binary compare to see if there is a difference in the files, although my guess is that Flare's file compare is being affected by network lag or an antivirus scan, which is throwing it off on that file. I've seen the same. If you cancel the window and start the import again, does ...

Flare v5 Popup Targets

We started using Flare 5 with our Help this week, and ran into an interesting issue when testing. In Flare 4.2, Popup targets would appear in a box near where the link was, moved slightly to fit on the page if necessary. In Flare 5, these windows are mis-positioned if the topic the link is in has ...

Re: Flare 5 PDF Build --> No PDF Publish --> Yes

Are you running with UAC enabled? Even as an Admin, I've had some experiences with UAC not allowing registry access when it should. Try disabling UAC, rebooting as requested, and try to build again.

If you already have UAV disabled, you could try running Flare in compatibility mode. Right click the ...

Re: Internal error: Failed to load Master TOC - #2

We encountered this problem with source control as well. The UTF-8 files were working fine, but the UTF-16 TOC files were getting garbled. We changed the source control to check the FLTOC files in as binary instead of plain text, and this solved the issue. We never saw those junk characters at the ...

Re: "Real" quotation marks

Flare's announced-but-not-yet-released sibling, Press, is supposed to compete with page layout programs like InDesign and QuarkXPress, which it can never do if it doesn't do advanced font rendering like curly quotes and ligatures (with the new OpenType fonts).

Due to a limitation in the .NET ...
