Re: Generating Alias File: Missing Topic

I'm guessing they inadvertently found their way into the Alias file at some point, since you're getting the message.

Good luck.

Re: Generating Alias File: Missing Topic

Do the topics still exit in the Header file (same folder as Alias file)? I think it's happened to me before, and once I deleted the topics from the Header file, the message went away.

Re: Flash doesn't connect sections?

Does it work as MadCap Movie Player output? If so, you're looking at one of many problems with the Flash output. I've had a Flash case sitting with MadCap Support since late July, still without resolution. Good luck. You have my sympathy.

Re: Silverlight Output and Input Box

Hitek,

I've been working with the product for a while, and trust me, Silverlight and Flash outputs are not ready for prime time. I've learned the hard way. Until MadCap gets up to speed in those areas, stick with MMP output.

Re: Flare doesn't launch MImic

Guess I'm sort of caught in the middle: unable to use the new release, unable to find anyone who can explain why my fully licensed and registered Mimic 2.0 won't work with my fully licensed and registered Flare 3.1.

Consider me a variation on Kafka's Gregor Samsa.

Re: Flare doesn't launch MImic

Congratulations, Christine. I'm happy for you. Our CIT department doesn't want us using v4 until the first service pack is released, so I'll have to wait and hope for the same results. It's depressing, though, that MadCap has given up on solving this issue in 3.1.

Re: Flare doesn't launch MImic

Tried it long ago, with no success. Perhaps it'll work for Christine. I hope so. It's no fun purchasing a product you can't use.

Re: Flare doesn't launch MImic

Awfully strange. I too have Flare 3.1 and Mimic 2.0, both licensed, and haven't been able to launch Mimic from Flare or add a Mimic link in Flare since the day we purchased Mimic. Flare support even set up a couple of remote sessions to poke around in my computer and eventually gave up. To this day ...

Re: Problem(s) in background thread

Thanks, Lisa. Did what you suggested. Found a few minor irregularities, but don't think any turned out to be the devil behind the detail. Spent some of yesterday cleaning up the spaces after colons and haven't seen an error message since then. Got my fingers crossed.

If you navigate to Project Organizer > Skins, double-click the skin you're using and select the Basic tab, is the Automatically Synchronize TOC box checked? If not, try that.

Re: Problem(s) in background thread

But before I do that, I'm wondering: a few of the error messages indeed have included the names of topic files in the project. I checked with one of the other writers, who recently has been setting up multiple levels in her index entries. In checking a few of them randomly, I'm noticing spaces after ...

Re: Problem(s) in background thread

Thanks, Ramon. Unfortunately, the error is right back at it this morning. Another writer working on the same project was getting the same error all day yesterday but says things are okay so far today. I really hate to bother support with this nebulous issue, but I don't know where else to turn ...

Re: Problem(s) in background thread

Really appreciate the response. It began to occur so frequently yesterday that I gave up, shut it down and didn't bother restarting until this morning. I've got my fingers crossed. Only my opinion/experience, but over time, I'm finding the application to be rather moody.

Thanks, again.

Problem(s) in background thread

I've received the following error message several times today while working in Flare: "Problem(s) in background thread: Could not find file ... etc." and variations thereof (always beginning with "Problem(s) in background thread").

At the moment, it has my project frozen and on the brink of ...

Re: How to apply shading to a table cell?

Not sure whether it's what you're looking for, because it sounds as though you've done pretty much the same thing by a different route, but have you tried clicking the Table bar in the left margin of the XML Editor, navigating to Table Style > Edit Style, selecting the Header tab, selecting the ...

Re: make a topic show only one of many content bits?

If I had to set up something like what you're describing, I'd create four topics: Topic 1, Topic 2, Topic 3 and Topic 4. In the Editor, I'd give each topic the same title and copy the 3 radio-button items to each topic. Below the items in Topic 2, I'd write the list related to radio button 1; below ...

Hi Christine,

What version of Flare are you using? All I can do is offer my sympathy. I had the same problem when trying to insert a Mimic file in a Flare 3.1 project. Nothing worked.

I've been evaluating Mimic and am on the verge of making a pitch to purchase a license; however, I need to know more--or understand better--about requirements. (Forgive my terminal awkwardness with the lingo.) I much prefer the MadCap Viewer output to Flash or Silverlight but don't want to ...

Re: System moves at a crawl

We're not using source control, and the project is on a network drive. At this juncture, I don't have the tool to integrate the help file with the software, so the developers like the file where it is. And I don't want to think about what it'll mean to remove it from there; updating the files ...
