Is there a way to merge two objects and have the text on both remain visible?

It may indeed be attributable to my novice status, but the product seems to have a bit of a "buggy" feel to it:

1. Project Movies window won't dock properly on the right side of the interface.
2. Clicking too fast through the tutorial, particularly backwards, causes Mimic ...

Problem seems to occur when output is Adobe Flash rather than MadCap Movie Player.
