TFS - 503: Service Unavailable
Thanks so much, Mr. Lee. You've provided more help long distance than I get in person. One more problem, though: Now when I open Flare, I get an error that says, "Connecting and logging into Source Control failed: The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable." We use TFS to check in ...

Need to re-enter license code
I just got a new PC box at work. Flare was reinstalled on it. When I opened Flare for the first time, I was asked for a license code. Long story short: I unknowingly entered someone else's license code. Now, every time I open Flare, I'm asked to go through the registration steps, and the process ...

Sometimes I feel like such an end user. Thanks, again. Perhaps I'll download a trial of Captivate, see where it takes me.

Re: Softball Question
Thanks, Carolyn. If nothing else, I now have hope. Is it a reasonably bug-free, intuitive tool? I've just begun to research other software simulation tools and need one that'll stay out of my way, so to speak, while I work on content.

Re: Softball Question
Thanks for the replies. Yes, I open the help with the same browser and machine each day. The Flare help project is in the TFS folder. The link is pointing to the movie file on my C: drive (where all the Mimic project and movie files have been stored since I installed the software--C:/My Documents/My ...

Re: Softball Question
Thanks for responding, Steve. Forgive me, but I'm not quite sure what you're asking. In Flare, if I click Build > View Primary: "MyWebHelp" and click the movie link, the movie plays fine. If I go to the TFS folder where the help output resides, open the help file and click the movie link, it plays ...

Softball Question
Child's play: We use Flare 5 to incorporate webhelp in our software. We have but don't yet use Mimic 2, primarily because I can make the movies, but I can't get them to work in the help output.
Here's what I do: I make a movie, save it in Silverlight format and build it. In a Flare topic, I create ...

Re: Why go with Flare over Robohelp?
No need to air a summary of the political forces at play, but we appear to be in the midst of a temporary cease-fire. We just upgraded to TFS 2010 and our division is about to release a new version of our software, along with the latest help, so we had to upgrade to Flare 6 to solve compatibility ...

Re: Why go with Flare over Robohelp?
Call me the choir. Many thanks for the links. In this political play, I've got the speaking softly part down cold; now all I need is a big link to carry.

Why go with Flare over Robohelp?
I work for a company where writers for one division use Robohelp and writers for the other use Flare. I'm with the other. The Robohelp writers have had their tool longer than we've had Flare. A new manager has decided both divisions need to be on the same tool, and the debate is on.

Re: Ruler height in preview doesn't match output
Thanks. Haven't had chance to try a different browser, but before reading your suggestion, created another p. class, gave it a different name and applied same properties as previous, switched the old tags with the new, and the border suddenly looks like its old self in the compiled help. Doesn't ...

Re: Ruler height in preview doesn't match output
Follow-up: custom paragraph class, with tastefully (or so I think) added line coloring, has been working beautifully--actually makes a bunch of boring text look almost worth reading. Until now. Have been merrily adding the p. class to topics, then last night, after building, noticed that all lines ...

Re: Ruler height in preview doesn't match output
Looks as though the custom paragraph class is going to work. Guess I'll scrap the ruler approach for all time (didn't matter what height or color I used: in IE8, one inch and bold orange came out the same as ten-point and hot pink: half a pixel and gray). Thanks to both of you for the help.

Re: Ruler height in preview doesn't match output
Thanks so much for passing along your thoughts. The project is using only one stylesheet. Below is a screenshot of that part of the Target Editor. As far as I'm aware, no changes have been made to those values.

Ruler height in preview doesn't match output
I've got rulers inserted in a bunch of topics. In the stylesheet, the color is set to blue, the height to 3px. They look fine in preview mode; in the output, however, all are sickly thin and gray, maybe 1px.

Re: Here's the Strange Thing
Thanks for the color-coded help. Just the thing I needed but was too shy to ask. Removed the offending code and rebuilt but haven't noticed any difference. Think I'll just cut my losses with those previous topics and move on, hope for the best.

Re: Here's the Strange Thing
Hope you'll forgive me, but in combing quickly through the posted code to add generic data, mistakenly edited a mc-master page reference, so in reality, both references read the same (you've got quite the sharp eye, by the way); nevertheless, I'll remove the block of code you've isolated and see ...

Re: Here's the Strange Thing
Running v5. Added dummy topic, applied master page with link, built, and link was the correct color. So perhaps moving forward the links will behave properly? Anyway, just to test further, went back to stylesheet, changed link and visited colors. The handful of random topics that were showing the ...

Here's the Strange Thing
I've been here about this before and still can't slay it. I've got a script link in a master page. In the stylesheet, I set the link to be red. Then I manually applied the master page to a dozen or so topics. Half the links are purple(ish), and half are red. I swear.

Re: Script Link Formatting
Thanks for taking the time to do that. Sorry, but something remains amiss, and I'm at a loss. Instead of the link color selected in the stylesheet, the output is showing the visited color full time (and yes, I formatted in the prescribed order). Also, when trying to select the script on the master ...

Script Link Formatting
Thought I'd take one last shot at this: I've created a master page that contains a javascript link but can't figure out how to change the font size or color of the link through the stylesheet. It must be something obvious but obviously too obvious for me. I've posted the master page code below, in ...

Re: Script Blues
Lost the span tags (don't recall how or why they got in there like that) without incident but seem to be making a mess of things with the href thing. Ah well, I'll return to it later; in the meantime, I'm beginning to appreciate the color blue.
Thanks.
Thanks.
