Open a second window (skin) from TOC
How do I open a topic from the TOC and have if appear in a second window (skin) on top the main Help viewer (much like old WinHelp feature)? My output is HTML help. MadCap 4.2.1. Obviously, not all TOC entries would open in the second window.

Thanks, Dave. That worked [ top.window.close(); ] --closed the WebHelp after OK-onfirmation window.

The Exit button in the toolbar does not work for me.
I am creating WebHelp in Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, SP 3. I selected to have the Exit button [CloseHelp] on my toolbar within the Skin. In the Skin > Styles > Type, the OnClick property says: onClick="javascript:window.close();" But when I open the Help and click the Exit button it doesn ...

WebHelp: Close-this-Help button in toolbar
Does anyone know how I can add a custom button to the WebHelp toolbar that closes the Help window? I'm building WebHelp with 4.0 for a touch screen and the X in the top right corner is too small.
Thanks,
Roger

Re: Button to close the chm
That would be great-- at least for a few common features like close buttons, open a second chm, printing several or all pages in chm, or whatever folks request often.Richard Ferrell wrote: I will submit a feature request to our dev team for more support for custom buttons and scripts.

Re: Button to close the chm
Yes. It works perfectly. That could otherwise have taken my days to figure out. I wish MadCap Flare's Help could point to resources like this.
Thanks, Pete and Paul.

Re: Button to close the chm
Lisa, you got it. That's what I want.
Pete, I think what you are suggesting is a new topic that closes the help when that topic opens. I am putting the 'Close' button in a topic rather than in the button bar, but that shouldn't make a difference. I tried your suggestion (copying your code into the ...

Button to close the chm
How do I create a button for the user to close (exit) the chm? I image it must be a shortcut control but I've not found any help for the parameters to be sent or the "standard windows message."
Windows XP, Flare 4.0, HTML help, need not work over a network.
Thanks,
Roger

Re: Popup Link to External Topic Not Working
I've found way to get links from chm to chm to work. I have not tried to open a page fromt the external chm in a popup window. The missing bit of information from the Flare Help is ms-its: . So the link (which can be edited with the internal editor) looks like this:
<A HREF="ms-its:filename.chm ...

Re: Popup Link to External Topic Not Working
Jodie, sorry I can't help you. I would like to know how you got your links to chm B (an external chm, I presume) to work at all. I have Flare 4.0.
