Re: Should Madcap merge Cross References and Hyperlinks?
I use hyperlinks when I am embedding a link within a paragraph by linking a word to a specific topic of interest.
I use cross references when the link and the title of the topic it is referring needs to stand on its own. Usually a cross-reference can sit comfortably on its own line or in a bullet ...

Re: Reviewing document in printed form - affordances of print
So an affordance is sort of a function, then.
It's not a function, at least, not in all senses, but that's probably a close enough definition for many uses of "affordance," especially outside of academia. An affordance is not so much a function, but a *use* that something offers, and I don't mean ...

Re: Quick Start Guide redux
IMHO tools used to create marketing brochures and the like are better suited to this type of deliverable - with strengths in page layout and graphics rather than styles and consistency. I am using CorelDraw for ours.
Agree with everything said earlier.
Interesting indeed!
I just do it in Word ...

Reviewing document in printed form - affordances of print
Reviewing printed documents in paper provides many affordances.

Re: Heading Levels and Page Breaks (CSS)
Here's a tip,
set a page-break-inside:avoid
to a div.
for print
If you want to keep a section of text comprising more than two paragraphs together
sometimes its good to enclose it in a div.

Re: Single Sourcing for Paper Questions
Greg - thanks for your timely response. It turned out my running heading (#1) wasn't working because of a paragraph mark that made the area larger than the header size defined in the page layout. Instead of displaying some of it, nothing displayed. It took the support person who helped me a while ...

i am posting a request for this. And i think it won't help to add your voices to this.
To be a robust screencapturing program that Capture is aiming for I think they should be able to meet this requirement if enough notice this.

Re: Profiles for Callouts and Text Boxes
If you have Capture 5, you can use the batch processing picture to apply a standard callout and text box effect i think.
In earlier versions, the one i use is v4, you'll have to open each image and select the use Default Style or something along those lines. You don't have to change each callout ...

Ah, that's where it was hiding! Perhaps they should make that a bit more visible :D ... I like my arrows a bit more restrained!
Yes, it should be a bit more English-like in a restrained kind of way, isnt' it? :)
Haha!!! Seriously, I do agree with you wholeheartedly on more minimalist captions ...

Re: Single sourcing with DITA - compile issues
margaret it sounds like a case for the Madcap dev team. Even if Flare already has other nice outputs, i think its really good that you are exporting to DITA and working with that. No point going to Flare 6 or 7 if the DITA export is not clean enough yet. Am sure everyone and the mad team would ...

Do you open the images in any other program for editing/post production, etc.?

At one point, sometimes i get a System Memory out of error exception. Its rare, usually happens i've been building projects repeatedly. I restarted my PC,memory issue resolved and all was fine. The PC i am using is not exactly super new, about 4 years old.
