Re: Best way to insert screenshots in Flare
it takes a bit of getting used to capture. but once you've done it a few times, you will appreciate the non-destructive nature of Capture's text and overlay workflow.

Re: does anyone know what's in store in Flare 6
Last year I attended a training class hosted by MadCap Mike and we asked him what is in store for v6.
If I remember correctly he said that most improvements for v6 will be in the flare user experience (which I think is good news). He also talked about a rather cool feature (that I can't remember ...

ePUB format could potentially take off - ipad support
epub format could potentially take off with support on more 'jesus' tablets like the recent announcement on the ipad. what do you think?
i don't see any major advantages of the format at the moment, but I think i need more time to read about it.

Re: Export Flare reports to XLS or CSV?
Yes, and it may be the only option, but that requires stripping out a lot of html and style tags in order to just get the data. Perhaps I can request a future Flare enhancement.

i have a pretty strong feeling team server is being put through rings of fire by the internal tech writer's of MadCap's product documentation team. If anything they've got tonnes of documentation that looks very 'single-sourced'.

Re: single project > many outputs: xref best practice?
I tend to try this
I insert x-refs, at the end of paragraphs.
bl bl bl bl. See [xref].
this is the approach i notice that the madcap help author used as well generally. also if the links all occur in one line like in a list

I am glad we started single sourcing
There have been times in the past, where I indeed questioned myself if the added complexity was really all that necessary. I am glad we didn't revert for our technical/help documentation with Flare.

Re: Can I Create TM database in Lingo from old FrameMaker files?
What was translated (into Japanese), was done in FrameMaker years ago. So, what we have is FrameMaker files in Japanese, probably with no translation memory database, and Flare projects in English. Do we create a translation memory database by importing the Japanese FrameMaker files into Flare and ...

Re: Can I Create TM database in Lingo from old FrameMaker files?
What I meant by a master language project was our project in English. What we originally created in FrameMaker (in English) is in now Flare, or is in the process of being imported into Flare. The FrameMaker-to-Flare import has required a fair amount of reformatting, and I would rather not go ...

Re: Can I Create TM database in Lingo from old FrameMaker files?
We are completing our conversion of the master language files from FrameMaker to Flare. I would like to know if there is a way we can salvage the translation that has already been done, and in particular, can we generate a TM database that we can use going forward?. I'm not sure that there is a TM ...

The images aren't missing. Something changed with the conversion of the translated text in the images. after Lingo exports the final output to a new Flare target project.
Its happens with incompatible versions of Lingo and new versions of Flare.

I think I added a feature request probably quite a long time ago about being able to Copy/Paste pictures, but in reality the feature request I would really want would be that I should be able to take a Word Document, Select All and Copy and Paste into a Flare topic and have it show up 99+% as it ...

Re: Pasting Image Data from the Clipboard
I do know that it still has a problem with the GIF output, so you'd have to save them as PNGs, which aren't as small as GIFs, but are supported in browsers (although IE6 doesn't display the transparencies correctly).
