Re: List of Cross References Links in PDF Bookmarks Panel?

Wow, that's easy! I thought this was a bug or something. :) Guess I should have dug deeper! Thanks!

List of Cross References Links in PDF Bookmarks Panel?

When I generate a PDF from Flare, at the bottom of the PDF's Bookmarks panel (below the entries to the last section of the manual) is a "Bookmarks" section with links to all Flare bookmarks that were used for cross-references in the document. Is there a way to exclude these? I can manually delete ...

Re: Notes within Lists?

Ah, now I get it. Thanks for the explanation! :)

Now I just need to debate the pros and cons of switching our current HTML lists to auto-number paragraph styles. I like the simplicity of the HTML lists, and being able to control the nested lists using the complex selectors.

I guess another option ...

Re: Notes within Lists?

Thanks for the suggestions!

The first is to do what cbdebris mentions and use paragraph classes with auto-number formats instead of the standard HTML lists.

This is probably user error on my part... But I may be misunderstanding what I should be doing? To recreate, I created a paragraph class ...

Re: Notes within Lists?

Thanks!

The style I have auto-populates the word "Note" and the formatting is correct, but my problem is trying to include several notes within a list. For example, this is what I'm trying to achieve:

But if I have an ordered list and want to include several notes that are indented ...

Re: Slice Your Information Into Reasonable Chunks When Importing

Good point. I do plan to produce both print and online versions of these documents...which brings up another related issue. If the topics are too small, they seem strange when viewed from webhelp since you only see the single topic.

Slice Your Information Into Reasonable Chunks When Importing

When importing files from FrameMaker to Flare, you have to determine which styles are used to create new topics (within the "New Topic Styles" tab of the import file). So far when importing, I have specified that H1, H2, H3 (and sometimes H4, depending on the document) styles be used for new topic ...

Notes within Lists?

I am in the process of migrating from Frame to Flare. I've gone through the process of setting up my stylesheet, but realized there are a few issues when beginning the actual import/format process. In Frame, if we had several notes that needed to be included, we would insert a "Note" table that ...

Re: Can I Create TM database in Lingo from old FrameMaker files?

Hi amatsumoto,

I'm also in the process of migrating our existing English documentation from FrameMaker to Flare and need to determine the best way to leverage our existing translations. I'm taking ~15 existing individual FrameMaker books and converting them into three Flare projects, based on ...

Re: Bug with True Type Fonts in Flare 6?

I followed up with tech support about this, and they said that although the bulk of the code base still uses the .NET Framework version 2.0, they've been moving incrementally toward newer versions for certain features in order to take advantage of the expanded functionality of the newer versions of ...

Re: Bug with True Type Fonts in Flare 6?

According to Flare tech support regarding the error for the Frutiger font, this is due to a bug in the .NET Framework 2.0. This bug has been fixed in .NET 3.0 but Flare hasn't migrated to it yet.

Re: Limit on Number of Outputs in Single Project?

Thanks! I have a few more questions... :)

1) For now, I think I’m going to use option 2, with a single parent project and a separate child project for each product family (see graphic below). Using this method, I could create the “Global” directories for the shared parent files. But, if I ...

Re: Limit on Number of Outputs in Single Project?

Thanks! This makes me feel slightly more confident about trying it out. :)

I need to figure out the best strategy for our documentation.
- We'll be outputting about 15 different printed documents (3/4 of them are installation manuals and about 1/4 are QSGs).
- For each printed manual, we'll also ...

Re: Limit on Number of Outputs in Single Project?

Or would it make more sense to have a single "parent" project with several smaller "child" projects and using the global project linking feature? I'm testing it out now, so I'm not sure what the limitations might be, but it seems like it could be a good solution.

Re: Limit on Number of Outputs in Single Project?

Limit on Number of Outputs in Single Project?

Is there a recommended limit for the number of outputs that we produce from a single project? Ideally, we want to make changes in a single location, so we're leaning ...

I need to generate two outputs using the same content: a hardware installation manual and quick start guide. The manual is 8" x 11" and the quick start guide is a booklet that's 4.75" x 4.75". Within the installation manual, we include line drawings with each set of installation steps, but in the ...

I was wondering about that too. Is it common practice to have a "blank" page layout that contains a single page with a body frame that you use for these scenarios?

Re: Back Covers and Page Layouts

Weird...that worked! But only if I put the Body frame on top of the existing Image frame. If I put the Body frame under the Image Frame, the empty page disappears. I had to do something similar for the Front Cover, but instead of inserting the Body frame on the Normal page, I had to insert it on the ...
