Re: HTML 5 forum please!
It feels as if HTML5 discussion should go here, since it's a flavor of Web help, but since the title of this forum enumerates the "WebHelp, WebHelp Plus, and Adobe Air Outputs" explicitly, that seems to exclude HTML5. Therefore, HTML5 discussion is already split between this forum and the General ...

Re: Strange line break issues in Flare 8
What does the code look like (in the text editor)? It seems as if you might have extraneous tags surrounding each word.

Re: Flare 8 Niggles
I don't notice any difference in performance once the application is up, but Flare 8 sure takes a long time to open... about 10 seconds to open my favorite .flprj in Flare 8, vs. about 5 sec in Flare 7.

Re: Flare 8 Niggles
I personally don't like the ribbon, and agree that it's a step backward in usability, BUT I can imagine that people -- consciously or subconsciously -- evaluate the "newness" of an app's look and feel as part of their purchase decision.

Re: Flare 8 Niggles
My project has many email links. When I build it as HTML5, I get a warning for each one: "Topic contains a topic popup to an email address. Topic popup will be converted to a hyperlink." I don't get these warnings when building the old targets (HtmlHelp and WebHelp).

Re: Flare 8 Niggles
I was curious about the "free review" feature too but haven't investigated it yet. Does it truly just refer to the 30-day free trial version? If so, that's more a sort of "free one-time-per-SME review" feature, which isn't terribly useful.

Re: Favorite Flare 8 features
Well, I installed Flare 8 about 15 minutes ago, so the jury's still out  but I think I'm going to like the HTML5 help. Currently, I use WebHelp, and have a li'l hunk of Javascript in my master page to display the "actual" frames-based topic URL, so that it can be grabbed and emailed (esp. by ...

Delete key weirdness
One of my SME's is experiencing a weird problem in the Contributor editor. Any time he hits the DELETE key twice in succession, the cursor jumps to the H1 header at the top of the topic and starts deleting characters there.

Re: Binding? Importing? I'm confused.
Thanks! That actually does seem like the right path. I think that back in the wayback, when I tried this, I didn't think that option was available till the project had already been bound via Flare. (Maybe it wasn't, back then? Or maybe I just missed it. )

Re: Binding? Importing? I'm confused.
We worked it out by reducing our writing staff to the point that I don't share any projects with anybody. :(
My situation is that my projects are ALREADY IN the repository and I want to tell Flare that this is the case, without having to move my project, remove it from source control, or otherwise ...

I don't see a way to subscribe to this thread without replying, hence this reply.
We've reverted to Flare 6.1 until a fix for this problem comes through.

Re: Flare 7, Analyzer 4 and the All-new MadCap Contributor
We were also finding that most reviewers wanted to have the ability to add content, so it seemed beneficial to include the functionality in a single tool.
I can believe most of them wanted that ability, but is it practical to outfit every SME with a $249 tool? (Depends on your budget, obviously ...

Re: Expand TOC volumes by default?
Mine isn't quite simple enough for that to work: I do have multiple volumes at the top level, and only the first one opens if I use your trick.
I think I'll have to live with the default behavior, but I'll add my voice to your feature request.

Expand TOC volumes by default?
I have a relatively short TOC (for a small project), and it would be nice if the whole TOC hierarchy were visible from the start. Is there a way to make that happen?
My target is WebHelp.

Re: Are folks using the Analyzer link checking?
One thing about external links... Flare/Analyzer recognizes an external link as having the following syntax: mk:@MSITStore:linking_file.chm::topic_name.htm.
If this isn't the syntax you're using for topic to topic external links, then Analyzer is going to think the links are broken.
To clarify my ...

Yes, as I mentioned, it still works fine on XP. The IE security settings are a good idea. I don't think we upgraded IE versions when we went to Win7, but we may well have different settings. I'll look into it. Thanks, Ramon!

Re: How to provide link to a topic in WebHelp?
Hi folks,
I've been using the technique described by Ramon (below) for quite some time now. I have discovered, however, that if the link itself is in a .chm file, it does not work on Windows 7 : instead it goes to the default page of the WebHelp. It still works if I build the project containing the ...

Analyzer 3.0 won't open .htm file outside of project
I was using Analyzer 2.3 as a general XHTML editor (among other things). It is useful for that purpose since it doesn't require an .htm file be part of a Flare project, as Flare itself does.
Unfortunately Analyzer 3.0 crashes (Problem Details > Description: Stopped working  ) when I try to ...

No, I'm not going to do it that way. I don't want to lose all the history of the files -- the checkin comments have helped me solve problems/find stuff more times than I can count.

Binding? Importing? I'm confused.
Sometime last year (you can see my post a little further down this page) I tried to bind one of my Flare projects to TFS, but the performance was hopelessly bad. I want to try it again with the newest version.
My project is, and always has been, *in* TFS. The content and project files are checked i ...

Ramon, are you assuming we force our end users to whatever platform we're using? We test on multiple platforms, duh.

Good, I'm glad it is working for other folks! Maybe I can get it working for me. I'll be sending my project to Madcap Support for help...

Are folks using the Analyzer link checking?
The low traffic in this forum makes me wonder whether people are using Analyzer very much. Admittedly, though, it's not an app you're going to use every day the way many of us use Flare... but since my experience is also making me wary of it, and the forum's just crying out for new threads anyway ...

Re: Bound project to TFS and now it hangs
Has there been any progress on this problem?
I don't seem to have mentioned it before, but I'm *not* always the only writer on a project, and I *do* have to use TFS, so when I'm coauthoring with another writer there's a lot of jumping windows to check files in and out manually. The source code ...

Thanks Rick, that's good to know!
Between that data point and MadCap's track record, I feel confident that Flare needn't be an obstacle to our changeover.
