Re: Printing from HTML Output - Tables
Check if you see a change after disabling headers from repeating at page breaks. That'll pinpoint it to the table itself or the page break logic for tables. It probably wo't solve it, but it'll be another data point to give MadCap.

@mishu6779,
You might consider using a good text editor that has a search and replace in files. Everything you'll need to change is only text, so it's way easier than opening files in Flare.
I've used TextPad to good effect when confronted with a similar issue.

If you open the Flare Options dialog, on the General tab, do you have the Prefer Local Help option enabled?
If not, that may be why it doesn't launch locally, provided you downloaded it.

The JS on their site is pretty "generic" in that it isn't special or particularly unique except that it works together. Bet you a dime you can find almost this exact functionality on a Javascript site either offered freely or at less cost than bringing in a consultant for a few hours of basic coding.

Re: PDF target sometimes ignores my print stylesheet?
I fixed the issue.
I opened my target, went to the Advanced tab, and unchecked Use TOC Depth for Heading Levels. Due to the affected topics’ depth some h2 headings were turning into h6. I hadn’t stylised h6.
So I could uncheck that field, or stylise h6 (I did both).

Thanks for all the good insights, including the downsides of markup. Maybe a reason so many writers use the markup/static site generator combo is they don't have a better tool like Flare. Pure speculation but maybe they're making do with existing and free tools. I'll stick with Flare.

Flare doesn't offer what you're after. One can't add a new language and define its highlighting rules, nor can one edit an existing language's highlighting rules. This is something I'd like, too, and I've submitted a feature request. I suggest you do so, too.

Flare's has no position there.

If you generated the docs in Python-Markdown or Sphinx markdown or almost any markdown, you might get better results by using Pandoc to convert them to xhtml and then importing those into Flare. Re: Scripts for overnight build and publishing
I don't think there is any way to split the build/publish cycle into a build and a publish. I wish there were. My only suggestion is publishing to a staging area and testing errorlevels for madbuild exit codes. If it's not EQU 0, then you abort the copy process that puts your output in the publish ...

Re: Display PDF link in topics which are part of that PDF
Hi I do something like that. I generate all the PDFs and publish them to a directory under content. Then I add the links in the HTML5 and set the conditions to not show that line in PDF.
After that, I call a batch job to build/publish the pdfs and then I build/publish the help.

Re: Target Missing Content
Hi,
Is it linked so that you can find it?
Is it in a TOC.
Check the setting of Project Prop > Advanced > Exclude content not linked directly or indirectly from the target. If the topic isn't linked and the setting is checked, the topic won't get pulled in.

Re: Word target failing
Did this begin as an imported file? If so, is Target > General > Auto-Sync checked? That error make it sound as though Flare is accessing Word, which is choking on choking on spelling issues (been there) and then hanging, which causes the build to fail because Word isn't answering.

Re: Page Layout and Styles for more than one PDF output
I'm not certain what is happening. It sounds as though you are accidentally using the same modified page layout on an entry in two TOCs. It's been a while since I set up my pages, but I don't remember seeing any icons from MadCap on my page layouts. Did you mean the foot frame:

Re: Capability for variable sections?
Right. In this case we call them Targets and they're based on the final published format (HTML5, PDF, etc). Each target has a a set of conditions and a reference to a TOC. The conditions you set on the content decides if a piece is excluded or included in the target build. You can have a separate ...

I've had issues with Flare not believing the PDF was actually closed until I closed Acrobat, not just dismissed the file. A couple of times even having an Explorer open that was used to look in to the put put directory kept it from working. I tend to think that this is a windows issue.

Re: Page Layout and Styles for more than one PDF output
Hi Phil,
I would go about this using the CSS for style things as you said and then use the properties settings of each TOC sentry to pull in the desired page layout for that client.

Re: Capability for variable sections?
Yes, it does, Flare uses conditional markers with which you can tag with any topic, image, or bit of text and then associate that marker with a build Target. The Target can include or exclude markers based on what is needed for that particular client.
