Re: How to make Flare compile faster

I really, really dislike .NET.

Ramon? Can I get a second on this issue? :-)

Re: How to make Flare compile faster

Look in your Add/Remove Programs for Microsoft .NET.

It's like the past where you needed the VB or VC runtimes, except it doesn't work as well. Sometimes you run into situations where you need more than one version to get the best performance out of an application.

Re: How to make Flare compile faster

Beats me. I throw up my hands with the .NET stuff. I figure anything that might help diagnose the problem can't hurt.

How many version levels of .NET are installed?

And returning to the global snippets part...

We have a very large project going into Flare. One master project and dozens of sub-projects that are fairly large on their own.

How can I force Flare's New Snippet dialog to always look in a specific location besides My Documents/My Templates/Snippets ...

Re: How to make Flare compile faster

Hi,

Use the Deferred Procedure Call Latency (DPC) checker from http://www.thesycon.de/eng/free_download.shtml and the sysinternals procexp utilities to verify that there are no driver-related problems on the slow system.

Re: Anyone using a non-MS CMS to manage Flare?

Heya,

I'm using The TamTamCVS plugin for CVS. Works really well. There is an SVN version, too.

The plugin is USD$10 per seat.

But this is only temporary. We had hoped to see a beta of Team Server shortly. But since that's not happening, we're going to end up using some other solution.

Re: X-edit General questions

X-edit needs floating licensing.

I don't see MadCap selling 100 X-edit seats to a shop with 100 contributors.

However, I can easily see you selling a 20-25 seat floating license to that same shop.

Well, of course. Unless I'm joking. I may not have thousands of posts (I have a lot of writing to do), but I've been here since the beginning and I am a beta tester.

Re: Webhelp from Java? Anyone?

I've done similar projects. One project assumed that help would always on the same path relative to the application's starting directory. Another one used a system environment variable (a java environment property would work, too) to obtain a local base URL and then appended the pathspec to the _csh ...

Re: X-Edit setup could be improved for reviewers

Hi,

There is only one X-Edit. How it functions after installation depends on the license key. If you install with the full license, you have the whole thing operating.

If you install and run past the trial, only the review functionality will operate. You'll be fine for reviewing.

We're going to begin providing a help system for a massive java-based system. Details, details. I hope the release guys here already know ...

Re: right-align numbers using p. and autonumber

Yep, if you're working with content that's come from (or going to) FrameMaker, you'll need to use autonumber formats for your lists. Flare can't map between FM list styles and regular HTML lists (i.e. using the ol and li tags), you would map them to paragraph styles with autonumber formats.

Also ...

Re: can't turn off hyphenation in Flare 4.0

Not a problem. To add a non-breaking hyphen, type:

NOAA\-12

The \- will turn into a plain looking hyphen, but will prevent a break at that point.

It's windows own resources. I'd surely love to explain the technical details, but I lost interest in staying current with them when they never went away. The amount of RAM and the power of the hardware has little to do with the internal coding problems that exist in windows. I have 4GB and still hit ...

Re: can't turn off hyphenation in Flare 4.0

Open the Spell Checker

Enter NOAA-12 in the Correction Box.
Click Show Hyphenation
It will probably show you: -NOAA12
Change the hypenation to NOAA-12
Click Learn

Now it will only break on the existing hyphen.

There is supposed to be a way to make it not hyphenate, but still retain an existing ...
