Re: Failed to run command 'Copy'
I'd suggest it's a Windows resource problems based on 20 years of dealing with it. Anytime you run a windows application and basic functionality begins to fail it is a resource problem.

Re: Failed to run command 'Copy'
Nah. The last time I used a mac was ages ago.
It's just that any odd behaviour is going to be a windows glitch, especially basic stuff. Copy and paste isn't a fancy function. If it causes an app to throw an odd error and still works, it's a windows problem. It's always windows. That's the only ...

Re: can't turn off hyphenation in Flare 4.0
Hi Bonnie,
There are quite a few situations where actually changing a mif is faster than repairing something in the GUI. I've ofttimes done mass font changes, stripped out gigantic color definition lists after importing a word doc (those long RGB xxx, xxx, xxx entries). Digging around in MIF is ...

I've found that simply because you can see a property, that does not mean it is available for your use. If you click relevant properties you'll find the ones that do work for the style you're working with.

Re: can't turn off hyphenation in Flare 4.0
You will need to correct this in Frame, You will need to Open the style designer in Frame and uncheck the hyphenation box in the advanced tab. Listed below are the steps you will need to follow:
CTRL – M to open the paragraph designer
Select the style to alter
Click on the Advanced tab

Winmerge, duh, should have thought of that myself. no worries, I'll take care of that.
No problem, honest. It's just that I've done so many help source in source control projects testing RH and Flare that I wasn't really aware of doing that step. It was just second nature. You can shift the ...

Thank you for the software, I tried it and initially it seemed very good. However, it doesn't seem to persist the information you put in the options fields. Every time I go to connect to my CVS repository and get the files I have to re-enter all the information again.

Hi,
Nope. Sorry. It's a windows thing. It'll happen in one app and not another, or in the windows explorer and nothing else, or in everything. Windows is flaky. I've been dealing with this sort of crap since Windows was only a runtime package with delusions of becoming an OS platform.

I've had windows choke and refuse to copy things, too. It usually requires a reboot. I'm not familiar with the setup on a mac. Let us know how it turns out.

I'm using TamTam CVS SCC. It's USD$10.
There is a free trial that does not expire, but it does pop-up a 15 second nag screen every 15 minutes.
You can buy it from BrotherSoft (http://www.brothersoft.com/tamtam-cvs-scc-76597.html they're reputable) or right from Dave's site (via paypal) http://www ...

Re: X-Edit setup could be improved for reviewers
I've just been testing out the send for review option from Flare v4 to X-Edit.
I think X-Edit is ok, but I think it could be made a lot easier for your reviewers to set it up and get going.

I'd submit is as a feature request since it is probably missing through oversight by a group of webheads rather than by a hardcore framer who lives and breathes page layout.

Personally, I would like to see a companion version that runs on *NIX desktops. A large number of my contributors/reviewers don't have a windows box. Various developers use three flavours of unix.

I was used Flare 3.x (and RH, too) with VSS and later with AccuRev. Neither system is happy storing help projects.

Flare doesn't do DocBook, but you can view an html help (webhelp) on any linux/unix system that can run Firefox (or mozilla). If you have a real old install of solaris or somethign else that came with Netscape, it'll probably work, too.

It may also just be that compared to all other things this feature wasn't requested as often. MadCap is more inclined to do something the more people complain about it. I think that approach is a bit, well, stupid, because it fosters the belief that ballot box stuffing wins elections and is the way ...

Heya, we need a linux/solaris version of X-Edit. About half my contributors run *NIX desktops. Even if the user could only do a review it'd be great.

ah, messy, messy. Overloading the stylesheets isn't such a good idea. One output, one stylesheet. Therein lies safety and security
