Re: Browser support

Well, I guess it'd work. Spotlight is the Mac equivalent of the google desktop search.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spotlight_(software)

IMHO, I'd rather have a specific search.

Re: Browser support

I should add to this, that my project manager noticed that there is already a Search feature in Safari on the Mac, that works beautifully. So problem solved and no need to use the WebHelp search.

Umm... Is that going to search pages that you haven't brought down yet? The search in flare uses a ...

Re: Flare and Multiprocessing or Dual-Core Chips

All good advice, I'm sure. Perhaps beyond me in some cases (for example using sysinternals tools), but I will forward them off to our systems department (who initially asked me the question as they couldn't find the answer in Flare documentation or the Madcap site).

However, I'm still hoping ...

Re: Urjent-Redirect to Page Not found Page

The last company I worked at got around that problem by making the intro page serve several purposes. There were links to "how to use help", "how to search", "contacting support"....

As Ramon said, that's just the way it is. You could, I suppose create a special page for windows that don't yet have ...

Re: Browser support

Jenny, Look at the server error logs to determine the exact filename and path (including letter casing) that the browser is requesting. You can't really see what's happening from the browser.

Verify that path against what is actually available on the server.

Where would I look for the ...

Re: Page swap, or maybe auto-save?

Yesterday we set the paging file to 0Mb, but Flare is still taking 40 minutes to compile, and throwing page faults (1,494,494 when I just looked), even though it isn't doing anything at all. For Flare to be paging even when there's no paging file to use is a remarkable feat.

Snag a copy of the ...

Re: Browser support

It's the about:config way.

Thanks - bummer.

OK, here's another question.

Using the Error Console in FF, I see that it's looking for Filter.xml and it thinks there is an error in MadCapUtilities.js (Line: 2079). Any suggestions on this?
If I can't resolve this, I'll have to remove the Search ...

Re: Browser support

Pity that FF doesn't support this or a similar feature, as IE doesn't run too well on Linux, HP, Sparc etc......
FF doesn't need the feature because it doesn't have a security problem like IE does. MOTW gets around the security issue IE has with ActiveX controls. So you shouldn't have a problem ...

Losing some styles when displayed from one server

Hi,

I have three instances of apache 1.3.33. Two of them (1 win, 1 linux) display help in my browser formatted as I expected. The third (linux) loses most of the styles. Same output directory delivered from all three servers.

Any troubleshooting suggestions?

Re: Space between bullet and text

Hmm.. Might be some difference there. I always forget to look at IE's rendering. I guess I'll need to note that for the future. There's a new browser in Japan, Sleipnir. It's making a nice dent in the market. We got a request to test in it for out product. LOL. I don't even know where to dl it yet.

Yeah, javahelp sucks. I'll pursue this now that I know it's possible. Man, I wish there was one more writer in my shop, just to have a little leeway to experiment with things. There's nothing like time when you're always out of it.

Re: CSS Message Keeps Popping Up

Thanks to both of you!

I'm finding a TON of inline styles - look like holdovers from RH or someone who created the help system didn't really understand the concept of a stylesheet.

A large chunk is the RH garbage. I converted a huge RH system to flare and it took days to clean the RH stuff out ...

The readibility gurus also say left aligned rather than justified helps readability as well.

Really? I can't stand looking at printed or on screen text that is only left justified. It looks cheap and the fringes on the right side are distracting. I wonder why ever newspaper in the world prints ...

Re: How do you change h3 to h1 automatically

Yeah, we could really use regular expression functionality.

If you need to do something drastic tag wise, ask a perl coder for help. If not, get powergrep and try it on a copy of your project.

Alternatively, try out TextPad 32. It has a search and replace that handles regex. You can open all of ...

Another reason, at least in the financial industry, is that no one wants to shell out money to upgrade hardware or to do the mandatory security testing that a changeover to vista would entail. There are also problems with software compatibility using some ...

I ran Vista for six months on my new laptop and really liked it. I had none of the problems I heard about, then whammo! Oh, it's real. I have it installed. A couple others in the office bought it, too.

That's great. Did nobody ask why you bothered upgrading to 2007?

Also, sounds like you've got a potential market there for a DOS emulation.
