Re: Analyzer vs. Flare's "Project Analysis"

My project has less than 400 topics and Analyzer is already excruciatingly slow during its refreshes--and this on a reasonably quick machine (dual core, 4GB RAM). I agree that the scanning speed is about the same between the two. I just don't understand why Analyzer takes many minutes to display the ...

Analyzer vs. Flare's "Project Analysis"

Is it just me or does it seem that the Project Analysis tool built into Flare runs much more smoothly and quickly than Analyzer? Even though I have Analyzer, I find that for checking broken links, topics not in TOC or index, etc., it's much more convenient (and less frustrating!) to use Flare's tool ...

Re: Are folks using the Analyzer link checking?

I use Analyzer as well (V2.3). The problem I've had since I first started using it is that the database has a text string limit of 4,000 characters and I have a number of lengthy <pre></pre> sections where the text inside the set of the tags exceeds the 4000 character limit. I reported it as a bug ...

"Invalid display: inherit"

I have this really long topic that I think I've messed up somehow: I created several new styles based on an existing style, then I tried deleting these newly created styles later. But they still appear in my master stylesheet; further attempts to remove them generate a message saying that the style ...

Re: What does the "scissor" icon mean next to my target?

Thanks, Ramon. That's probably it. I did another WebHelp build and the problem did not appear.

Coincidentally, the build that caused the strange scissors icon had some errors in it: variables names were missing because I had just copied over some page layouts from another project. Flare didn't pick ...

What does the "scissor" icon mean next to my target?

Here's something new that I haven't seen in the years I've used Flare: This morning I compiled a WebHelp project--no problem here. Then my attention was caught by this unusual animated icon that I've never seen before. In the Project Organizer pane there is the Targets folder that lists all my ...

Re: Failed to run command 'Copy'

Well, I logged the bug yesterday and they got back to me today already! :) Unfortunately, their response was "Unfortunately, I was not able to reproduce this issue." :( Their workaround is do delete the Analyzer folder--this seems to be their all purpose "cure all". It would appear that Analyzer is ...

Re: Failed to run command 'Copy'

Well here we are, two years later and I'm STILL getting that "Failed to run command 'Copy'" error in Flare! This despite using the latest Flare 6.1.0, with a fully patched XP SP3. I'm seeing exactly the same symptoms as the other posters to this thread and despite this apparently being a "Windows ...

Re: Puzzling "Unresolved links" error messages

Thank you, Nita. That makes perfect sense and is most likely the cause of my problem. I don't doubt that many topics in PDF A link to topics that now reside in PDF B. What I'm puzzled is why doesn't Flare correctly identify the topic that's calling the "nonexistent" topic. For example, "foo" links ...

Puzzling "Unresolved links" error messages

I have a large help project that is generated into a single WebHelp project but has just been split into two PDF manuals. For simplicity, let's say half the topics are in "PDF A" and the other half in "PDF B". When I generate PDF A, Flare gives me a series of error messages similar to the following ...

Re: Sharing the master stylesheet between projects?

Yeah, just get one of those dual-pane Explorer replacements and just drag'n'drop the stylesheet. I don't think Flare offers any other easy alternatives. Project import is not the solution.

Re: Sharing the master stylesheet between projects?

Yep, me too.

But Lisa does raise a good point about allowing Flare fish information from a remote stylesheet. I seem to recall earlier versions of RoboHelp having horrible performance problems when certain resources were on a network drive. Don't want to go there again. Maybe in the end, the ...

First, set up the global/parent project that will contain the common items ... I hope this is enough to get you started...

This procedure appears to be geared toward creating new child projects off a parent project--will it work for hooking up three well established projects?

Life would be ...

Sharing the master stylesheet between projects?

I have three help projects all using the same master stylesheet. As these project were created at different times, I ended up with three copies of my master stylesheets. Keeping them all synchronized is a bit annoying when I tweak a stylesheet. Is there a way for each Flare proiject to use a ...

MadCap Tech Support also recommended resetting the window layout--that did the trick. This appears to be a bug in the UI.

Thanks.

Unable to open Link Viewer

For no apparent reason, the Link Viewer in Flare has stopped working for me--selecting it from the View menu or via right-clicking the topic does nothing. Interestingly, the icon displayed next to the menu item name is framed in orange, which implies that the item has been selected. Selecting the ...

Re: Analyzer 3.0 won't open .htm file outside of project

Hmmm....it crashes on me as well. I copied a Flare topic to the desktop, renamed it, then tried opening it with Analyzer. I immediately got: "MadCap Analyzer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I hate to say it, but with the problems I've experienced ...

Re: Duplicate styles, Part II

Basic rule of thumb is, define everything in the default medium and define only the attributes that are different for other mediums. So if p.note has 10pt indent in all outputs, then you define it in the default medium only. If it has 10pt in online output but 20pt in other outputs, then you ...

Duplicate styles, Part II

I am also scratching my head over how Analyzer determines "duplicate styles". For example, I have three styles: p.Note, p.NoteIndent, p.NoteIndent2. All three share the same formatting, except Note has 10pt left indent, while the other two have 30pt and 60pt indents, respectively. These different ...

If your Analyzer project will not open

Here's a valuable tip I just learned from MadCap Support: if Analyzer starts acting strangely (for example, refuses to open a Flare project that worked fine moments ago), simply delete the Analyzer folder within your Flare project, then relaunch Analyzer. You'll have to wait for it to perform its ...

Unable to delete a style

When I try to delete a style from my Master Stylesheet, I will sometimes get this error message:

What does this mean? When I open the stylesheet in a text editor, I can find the style and delete it ...
