I, too, found the differences between these two concepts confusing. There's plenty of overlap.
In the end, I scrapped CRs, and I only use hyperlinks.
We will always need hyperlinks... because we'll have plenty of things OUTSIDE of our project (and indeed, outside our company) that we need to link ...

Linking to the TOC, Index, Search from a topic?
Is there anyway to create a hyperlink in a topic that will cause my Web Help window to jump to the Index, the Search, or the TOC, etc?

Search takes a looong time to load, what's the secret?
When I click "Search" in my compiled Web Help, there is a long lag as it loads.
Any advice on speeding this up?
Is it loading the whole search database that takes so long,
and is there someway I can trim that?
I've noticed that there are some interesting options in the Target file, but I don't ...

Re: Modifications to TocEntry
Hi,
Yeah, what Margaret said.
It's really TWO basic steps:
1. You open your SKIN, and use the styles section to create a new class or modify your existing class. You can change the icon in TOCs and use an icon that you've edited to make more padding. Or you can change the font for the TOC items to ...

Hi,
I love the TOC Syncing option, which means that when I click a link in an article, the Table of Contents will automatically shift to show the topic I'm viewing. That's great because it allows users to see related topics, etc.

That workaround is exactly what I did, by the way.
For those finding this thread and unsure what it means, I did this:

This went well...
but of course, now I'm tempting to fiddle around in that file, some more... there has GOT to be a way to fix this bug right in that file...
I need some smart food.

I submitted this as a bug/request.
Unfortunately, they just AGREED and sent it to dev.
So I still don't know how to turn the feature off.
There must be a way to hack the skin or the style output, at least, and disable that gray highlighting that occurs when you hover over search results.

I'm sure this is in the Styles of the Skin editor, SOMEWHERE, but I can't find it.

Right now it is so small I can barely see what I'm typing when I search.

Actually... I think if you come up with a system of condition tags. (See "Conditions"), you could assign different topics different conditions, completely exclude those conditions in your Target file, and then they wouldn't be built in as part of the Search database.

Aha!
Yep. The gray-selection stuff works fine in Internet Explorer.
It does not work properly in any other browser I've tried.
I'll send this to MadCap.

Dave,
Yes,
I'm getting "click and it stays gray" behavior for all skins for Firefox and Safari on both Windows and Macintosh.
I just thought this was how Web Help worked!
If I click on various results, it ends up looking like this:

Adding Labels to the Toolbar Buttons in WebHelp
I would really like a small text label underneath my toolbar buttons.
In the Styles section of the skin editor for Web Help, you can put a label on your toolbar items.
That label seems to just hover in the middle of the image. I can't figure out what determines it's placement, alignment, etc.

How do I do that?

Re: Link color in miniTOC
Thank you!
I had a bit of a struggle fixing indentation, and it appears that some of the stuff flips and flops after you have clicked on it,
but after fiddling for a while, I got it to behave.
I now have a much greater understanding (and control) over my miniTOC formatting.

Changing color of selected and/or visited Search Results
In the search results in Web Help, if you click on a result, the result item's background turns gray and the topic is displayed on the right.
If you then click on a DIFFERENT result, that topic also turns gray, and the first topic stays gray.
End result: you can have three or four topics colored ...

Yes, the problem with the browser window is that it is locally dependent. Font, size, impact, etc. all gets set by the browser and the operating system.
