We're noticing that if you had manually installed a patch that updated that DLL, then the automatic update causes this error.
Either repairing or reinstalling the update should properly update the DLL and allow you to generate PDF output.

Re: How do you publish WebHelp? No, seriously...
Cool, thanks!
Seems kinda odd to have to open up the target to publish, when the "Build" and "View" menus let me do things right from the menu bar.
Ah well, I'm sure there is a logic behind it. Maybe I'll go find that Bug/Feature request link for Flare and send it in.

Re: How do you publish WebHelp? No, seriously...
Thanks Ryan!
Here's where I'm at now:
1. I set the Output field of my WebHelp target to a local folder on my PC.
2. Then I created a new Destination, and browsed to my Network Places and selected where the WebHelp should go. I checked the "Publish" box in the Publishing tab of my WebHelp's target ...

Re: WebHelp: Hyperlinks, Cross References, Other Linking
Maybe I should be changing the "Target Frame" of my Hyperlink to "Same Frame" or "Parent Frame"?
Is that happening in the output? You shouldn't need to select anything in the target field because the default option is to open in the same frame. There used to be a bug... I thought that was fixed ...

WebHelp: Hyperlinks, Cross References, Other Linking
Sorry if this is Flare 101 knowledge, but I'm having trouble with links.
When I link between topics, clicking on them jumps out of WebHelp and just shows me that topic, like a new Web page. I lose my WebHelp frames.
So, how is it supposed to be done?

The path to the output folder specified in the Target Basic tab can be (generally is) a different location than the path specified in the destination. How do you publish WebHelp? No, seriously...
I don't get it. I've messed with the "Output Folder" field in the target, and I've tried setting up Publishing locations in the Publishing tab of the Target.
No matter what I do, I get a folder named "Output", and then my target name as a folder inside that, and then my actual WebHelp files inside ...

Wow! I have not had to do any of the above machinations.
I also output to PDF, and I do not need to fiddle with individual images or do any size adjustments or apply a special style to either the preceding or following paragraphs.

Okay-- there ARE solutions to this problem, they ended up in a different thread, I guess.
Basically-- Take a hard look at all the nested elements around your images. You probably don't just have an img tag... it's probably inside a <p> tag, or a <div> tag, or so forth.

Re: Problem with hyperlinks in PDF
If you have never set the styles on the pseudo-classes then setting the styles on the base tag will work, because by default they'll inherit their styles from the base tag.
Okay, that makes sense. Except:
a) I'm pretty sure I've never edited those pseudo-classes before. I never much cared to ...

Re: changes to one style are changing others
Just popping in to second what Lisa says.
The Stylesheet Editor is a little tricky... anytime I make a change, I go back and click on the style and sub-class specifically before clicking to make the change.
I have accidentally changed the wrong item tons of times... this seems to happen a lot ...

In addition to right-clicking on the bullet or paragraph bar on the left and selecting, "unbind", I often right click on a style bar and choose from the "Style Class..." drop-down menu.

Re: Using built-in numbered list vs. created class
I have never had a problem with the lists... there seem to be lots of features for starting things when and how I need to start them.
I do use a custom created class for procedures, because I want the "Step 1: Title", with enclosed paragraphs and a bunch of other stuff. But I use normal lists ...

Re: Ugly PDF Image Quality Drop in Flare 4.2 vs. Flare 4
From what I can tell, Flare 4.2 was able to dramatically reduce file sizes by changing the way it handles images. So, I wonder if what you are seeing is an artifact of that process of making the PDF smaller. ...To some degree, I'm willing to sacrifice image quality for overall document size, but ...

Did you try the Media setting (CTRL+ALT+B) where you can set e.g. the Width to a value you want and the Height to Automatic?
As far as I know with the Automatic setting, the resolution will be taken into account. And resolution is the keyword here.
Thanks for the idea... but it looks like those ...

Ugly PDF Image Quality Drop in Flare 4.2 (SOLVED)
Has anyone else noticed a dramatic drop in image quality from Flare 4 to Flare 4.2?
I thought I was imagining things, until I found a Flare compiled PDF from before I updated.
Here's a "before" and "after" screenshot (4 to 4.2) of the same Flare PDF, blown up to 120%:

A worthy defense! But, seriously, then why would "Stylesheets" be Content? Or why would Aliases or Variables be Project? It's an endless discussion, I guess. And I'm certainly not arguing that there isn't a funny kind of logic to why certain things are located in one or the other... of ...
