Confused about xref settings in skin

Hi,

In the Styles tab for the skin there are settings for CrossReferenceFormat (the default is " See \"{paratext}\")") and CrossReferencePrintFormat (the default is "See \"{paratext}\" on page {page}"). Xref styles are set in the stylesheet so I don't understand why these styles are in the skin too ...

Re: centering a text box

Thanks Lisa.

If you right-click a graphic, select Object and then go to the Position tab there is the option to set the float to "Center of Column". What is the purpose of this setting?

Hi Bonnie,

I am having the same issue (albeit with a graphic). Did you ever resolve it?

Thanks,

Re: WebHelp Search not finding words that are in the project?

I apologize if this has been covered in another topic, but the Forum Search is not allowing me to use any of the search terms I need. :(

A good workaround is to use Google Advanced Forums Search:

Next to Search within a site or domain type forums ...

Re: Mishandling GIFs during FrameMaker import

Hi David,

I reported problems like this to MadCap back in February too and commented briefly on it in this post (http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8032) in relation to graphics that have callouts.

Regarding the job options file I poked around a bit and found that Flare is ...

Re: Generic class for marking reviewed text

Hi Adrian,

Did you ever resolve this? We are going through this same discussion here.
My thought is to just use the Text Background button on the toolbar. The color appears in both WebHelp and PDF. To remove the formatting, search for:' style="background-color: #ffd700;"' in the code and replace ...

Re: Referencing chapter numbers with xrefs

Thanks Lisa,

We need to maintain the look of our docs so cannot dispense with the numbers in boxes. One solution would be for MadCap to create a new variable called TargetChapnum that can be added to an XREF definition. That way the target style would not need to have autonumbering for chapter ...

Referencing chapter numbers with xrefs

Hi,

To simulate what we had using a FrameMaker source prior to converting our projects to Flare the chapter number is shown in a box at the top of the first page of each chapter. The number is pulled in by a variable in the page layout that has {chapnum} as its definition. The chapter title appears ...

Re: Regular expression support in Replace function

Thanks Kevin,

I have this option turned on. I am able to use Regular Expressions in the Find control, but not in the Replace field. From what I understand, a fully implemented regular expression engine should allow one to enter "placeholders" in the Replace field that swap in the text found by any ...

Regular expression support in Replace function

Hi,

Regarding Find/Replace, does the Replace function support regular expression backreferences for groups that are part of the Find expression?

I tried the following tokens but none worked (it treated the characters as literal):
\1
\\1
$1

Am I using the wrong syntax or this not possible in ...

Re: Table style questions

Thanks Andrew.

It looks like your answer is applicable to classes intended for cells, rows or columns whereas I was asking about the CSS class button in the Table Properties dialog box -- isn't this applied to the whole table?

Table style questions

Hi,

Two questions about tables...

1. In the Table Properties window for a table you can specify a table style and you can specify a CSS class. I am a little confused about the difference between these options. Are they really just two different ways to achieve the same ends? The table style editor ...

Re: Adding topics to a TOC by drag & drop

Thanks for the replies.

When adding a topic you specify a filename and can optionally specify a first heading. If you dont it inserts one for you based on the file name, as Dave said. However, the dialog does not let you specify a title tag and Flare does not seem to add a title automatically ...

Adding topics to a TOC by drag & drop

Hi,

When you add an entry to the TOC by dragging a file from the Content Explorer onto it the entry automatically takes its name from the text of the first paragraph in the file. I don't suppose there is an option to have it use the file name instead (without the html extension) ?

Thanks,

Level heading variables pick up wrong headings

Hi,

Regarding the use of the "Level..." heading variables, the Flare help file says this:

"Level1 Automatically displays the text in the first heading on a page that uses the <h1> style tag."

However, it doesn't really seem to work like this.

Firstly, it seems to depend not on the actual style ...

Re: TOC behavior

Hi,

I was after a more permanent solution for this too (rather than modifying the JS file after build) but I couldn't find anything in the GUI. It's not that I particularly want the entries to wrap either; I just want the scroll bar to stay where it is. For long entries, regardless of how long the ...

Re: How to easily change a variable in a topic

Thanks Will.

In my case when I right-click on the variable I can open the VariableSet and change the value, which will be valid through the complete project.

I can do this too, but it is not what I mean. I don't want to change the definition of a variable, I want to change the actual variable ...

Re: How to easily change a variable in a topic

It seems that if you have IntelliSense turned on (I didn't) you can add a variable quickly this way but it still does not seem to do what I want, which is allow you to change a variable that is already in the topic to another. Regardless of whether you just click the variable or select the whole ...
