Re: How to easily change a variable in a topic
Thanks.
When I click on a variable in a topic then hold down CTRL and press 3 nothing happens. Is that what you meant?

How to easily change a variable in a topic
Hi,
After adding a variable to a topic is there any way to change it other than first selecting it and then inserting the required variable via Insert>Variable? I was expecting to be able to access the variable set via the right-click menu, but no luck. Also any custom subclass that is applied to ...

Re: General Discussion on Graphics
I just updated the original post to include info on Capture 3.0.
Regarding this comment...
Graphics resized for online output, as produced by Flare and Capture are top notch. Try the Min Height, or Min Width declarations, which should help to simplify things.

Re: Chapter Header Variables Won't Be Italicized
Hi Lisa,
I think you may have misread my mail. I am saying that on further investigation I found that even if you apply italic and Tahoma to a normal (non-variable) word in a topic the italics do not come through in the PDF. I was not trying to set the italics for the variable as I already saw ...

Re: Chapter Header Variables Won't Be Italicized
After more tests and a quick Google around it appears that this problem is limited to Tahoma. Apparently, Tahoma does not have an italic variant -- Word, Frame and other programs "synthesize" any italic characters when a PDF is created. However, it appears that Flare just removes the italics. As ...

Re: Chapter Header Variables Won't Be Italicized
Tom, were you using Tahoma font by any chance?
We had the same problem as you and it seems to only occur for Tahoma. Here's a test I did:
First, I made sure the madcap:variable style was set to its default settings with no font specified (any font settings that are explicitly specified override ...

Re: How to make TOC entries not display a page number
By creating a span called WhiteOut that sets the font to <guess which color>, and applying that span in my h1.chaptertitle and h1.apptitle paragraph styles as mc-auto-number-class, I was able to have the Chapter and Appendix titles 'appear' as I want them in the PDF bookmarks, generated TOC, and on ...

Hi Kevin,
I'm sorry, I didn't see the second part of your reply before about DIVs. Sounds like a great idea. I will check it out.
Thanks!

Re: Generic class for marking reviewed text
Thanks Kevin.
I didnt explain that very well. What I had in mind would mean losing any span class you have applied but does not involve having more than one class per tag or breaking xml rules. I should have clarified that with this suggestion I realize that any span classes that have been applied ...

Re: Generic class for marking reviewed text
Thanks for the replies. I thought I might have been missing something with the generic classes, but it seems that's just the way it is.

Generic class for marking reviewed text
Hi,
I have seen a few posts recommending using a generic class for marking text as reviewed (e.g .REVIEWED). The idea is that you set a coloured background for the class and then you can apply it to either paragraphs or individual words. Unless I am missing something this works okay if whatever you ...

Difficulty applying span classes
Hi,
After spending my life with FrameMaker I am now getting to grips with Flare (v4.1). I have been playing around with applying span styles and seen some behavior that is rather strange to me.

Re: Showing conditional text, with colours, in output
Hi Phanna,
I stumbled across a way that sort of works, at least in Flare 4.1. I am not sure if it is officially supported and maybe there is a better way but I will tell you what I know.
In my CSS there is an entry called MadCap|conditionalText. I guess this must have been added automatically by ...
