Thanks Andrew.
I'll put in an enhancement request. Regarding the ability to copy/paste a selected area the functionality "nearly" exists using the "Capture region" command, if only it would not hide Capture before showing the selection cross hairs, so maybe it would not be much work for MadCap to ...

Can't find basic editing tools
Hi,
It's been a long time since I've used Capture and I'm having a hard time finding some basic editing tools. I am looking for the following:
i. A way to erase a selected area leaving it as a preconfigured background color
ii. A way to copy a selected area and paste it to another part of the image ...

Can the packager change the filename extension to XML?
Hi,
We have Flare and are considering getting Lingo so we can benefit from the project packaging and statistics side of it (rather than translating using it). The agency we currently deal with (for Word-based Marketing material) uses Trados. Our localization group tells me that in order to import ...

Try changing your Flash Global Security settings to "Always Allow". You have to do it via this web site:

Re: Easiest output type for customers using WebHelp?
One caution with Flash outputs: If your end users do not have internet access then they will not be able to see movie sections run one after the other continously (ie. without user input). To get this to work you need to configure Flash's global security setting to "always allow" and (somewhat ...

Re: Image quality in printed documentation stinks.
As this post is a year old you have likely figured it out now, but if not....just in case you resized in Capture 4 using "Print Size" rather than "Print DPI" there is a bug that results in a low quality graphic. May not be your situation but thought I would mention it just in case. I posted some ...

Re: How do I edit a callout on an image that's been reopened?
Hi,
FYI... I have just reported a similar issue as Heidi was having to MadCap. It ALWAYS happens whenever starting out with a blank canvas (File > New) and then adding a screenshot. Any objects added get flattened into the image when the file is reopened. Clearly a bug.

Re: Newbie Question: Moving files
Note that if you change the name of the graphic file in Explorer the name of the props file automatically changes to match. It even does this when Capture is not running. (I thought it might be due to a MadCap service in the background but don't see anything obvious in my services list, so I am not ...

Re: Table autofit for different targets
NOTE: You can reuse the same class of style in one topic as many times as you like, but you can't use the same ID multiple times in one topic. You can reuse the IDs in multiple topics, but you can only use an ID once in each topic. So if you have two tables in a topic that you want to print as 6 ...

Re: Trouble displaying Mini-TOC in PDF output
This problem can happen if you have a style used above the mini-TOC proxy in the same topic where it is inserted and that style has a heading level that would be shown in the mini TOC.
For example, suppose the following:
i. Your mini-TOC is set to show a TOC depth of 1
ii. Your H1 style is set with ...

Hi,
I updated the section on graphic resolution in Capture to Capture v4. When I get my hands on v5 I will update it again although I imagine most/all of what I say applies to that too.

I've wanted to view my CSS in a text reader with the styles in alphabetical order, but I can't think of a way to get them in alphabetical order (except by manually moving things around or other ways that are even more time-consuming). Am I missing anything? Is there an easy way to do this?

Hi,
You've likely found a more elegant solution by now, but I do have a partial fix if not:
i. Use a specific style for such occurrences
ii. For this style set the mc-heading-level to a high number that you are unlikely to need in the TOC i.e. 9.
iii. Set the corresponding TOC style (e.g. p.TOC9 ...

Best practice for numbered heading template
Hi,
I am currently creating a numbered template in Flare to match one that we have in Word. In our Word template we use h6-->h9 for the appendix styles. The styles match the H1 to H4 styles except for the numbering e.g. H6 is the same as H1 except for the word Appendix and the use of letters rather ...

Re: Print TOC not formatting headings as expected
For the record...when I came to set the autonumbering back to what it was I found that it is ignored for TOC styles anyway. Re: Print TOC not formatting headings as expected
Thanks Lisa.
The p.TOC1 and p.TOC5 styles are the same for the purposes of testing only. Ordinarily, they would be different (the p.TOC5 would have "Appendix:" in the autonumber field).
I tried setting the p.TOC5 to red and it gets reflected in the TOC so that appears to be working okay.

Thanks Lisa. I noticed that the other cross-reference properties in the skin were for context sensitive cross-references but I didn't realize that these ones were too. Now I see what is going on.
