Output the previous version and the current version to Word, Frame or PDF, and use the compare facility in those tools to compare the 2 versions.

Re: Is Lingo worthwhile? US to UK English
I think it's overkill. Firstly, look at whether or not it is going overboard to provide separate terms or spellings, non-US tend to not care too much if things are "americanized" we're pretty much used to it by now  . If you must have differences, then I'd recommend variables or snippets. Much ...

Re: How to localize using only Flare
First of all make sure your English is completely reviewed and finished, and freeze it. You really don't want to handle changes after beginning translation. Rename your high level Flare folder "..._English". Make a copies of that folder, and rename "..._"French", "..._Spanish" etc. Open each of ...

First of all welcome to the forums and Flare!

Re: Flare 4 slower than Flare 3.1
I came across a similar problem yesterday. Normally Flare 4 runs fine, however yesterday I came back from lunch and noticed my whole PC had slowed to a crawl. I used CTRL+ALT+Delete to look at the processes, and Flare had jumped from normally ~50 000K memory usage, to over 250 000K. I definitely ...

We are currently doing the same thing. I have found no issues copying the English to another folder, renaming it Spanish/French etc. All links appear to be relative.

Re: Inserting variables in a TOC entry
The problem is the non-variable text before the variable. Try the following format in the TOC:
Text [%=VariableSet.VariableName%]
So for your setup:
Registering for [%=ProductName.MathProduct%]
Logging in to [%=ProductName.MathProducte%]
Cheers

To search for common words in the forums, use a google site search, e.g.

It looks like your original post may have expired though.
Anyway, I've never heard of newURL used to open a new window, or seen it documented, so even if it worked it may have been a ...

Re: Movie in a table cell won't work
It looks like the Object>Size option is adding code to the actual <Object> tag:
<Object ... width=" " height=" " ... >
While leaving the <embed ... > tag as
<embed width="0" height="0" ... >
The implications, as far as I can tell are:
IE seems to read the <Object > size and ignore the <embed> size ...

Re: Movie in a table cell won't work
Being a Friday afternoon I thought I'd have a play and see what I could find. Looks like you are correct, when you insert a swf movie in a table, it doesn't appear. The exact same movie works fine outside the table.

Importing Chinese Frame files
We are trying to import Chinese FrameMaker 8 files, that use the SimSun font. These do not import correctly, I think because Flare works with unicode (UTF-8).
Has anyone been down this road? Will converting the Frame 8 files to unicode solve the problem, and how do you do this?
Thanks
Greg

Re: Importing Topic Titles
Hi Mark
Make sure all your "new topic" heading styles are mapped to a CSS heading tag (H1, H2, H3 etc), i.e. in your Imports file, Paragraph Styles section. Flare searches for the first heading tag to populate the <title> </title> part in the topic, if there is no heading style found (for example ...

One thing I'd like to do is add a "template description", currently it shows [No description found in template file] in the dialog when you select the template.

I want to include a couple of additional CHM files in the [MERGE FILES] part of HTML help. I can do this by opening the HHP file, clicking Project Options, and then the Merge Files tab. It's a bit of a hassle to do this for each build though.

Re: Command Line import
I don't think there is a parameter that would do this. You can specifiy a target using -target
madbuild -project "...projectLocation&Name" -target "...targetName"
So maybe if you link to the source, then put an invalid -target it would import correctly then fall over gracefully when trying to ...

It's a shame this isn't supported, but good to know so I can work something else out. TopicAlias markers from FrameMaker
Flare wants to add its own values (numbers) to TopicAlias markers from Frame, 1000, 1001, 1002 etc. The problem is we are coming from WebWorks where the value has been defined in the marker (e.g. we have six-digit numbers in Frame like 200201, 200202 etc). Flare imports this as (Text) Identifier ...

Re: frame import: PDF file is taking a long time to create
Flare uses distiller to generate graphics with callouts. What version of acrobat/distller are you using? And is it the full version, or the cut down "PDF Maker" that comes with frame? A few thoughts:
1. With version 3, I had a similar problem (Acrobat 7 and FrameMaker 8), and reinstalling acrobat ...
