Jump Buttons - Failing to appear

Flare 10.
Having spend an hour trawling through Help and posting here, I still cannot establish why the Jump Buttons fail to appear when compiled into a .chm. In the only Skin used, Jump 1 is checked, the URL is correct, and the button is named (DBT Web Site). I can see the button appear and ...

Re: Capture Text

Ask a developer for strings?! Are you kidding?

Perhaps in very extreme circumstances, but there are many times when either we need it reasonably quickly, or the developer(s) simply would lose such a request.

We quite often have to write simplified Help, in plain "teacher-proof" English, for what ...

Capture Text

A comment/wish in another topic was that Capture be more "Snag It-ish". I have to agree and have used both Madcap Capture and Snag It, finally settling on the latter.

However, one extremely valuable feature for many has been the demise of the List Text Capture feature in Snag It's latest version ...

Re: Word output - Table of Contents

Many thanks, Nita. I cannot believe this could be a bug after all this time. I have quite a few Projects which I also wish Word files created from.

If needs be, I'll have to use a support ticket, but now it seems I'm not alone. I also have an issue with language where Flare seems to think that two ...

Word output - Table of Contents

Have spent an age in Flare 10's Help - Help, please.

Page numbers in my generated TOC in Word, are in inch or so left of the right margin.

Where exactly in Flare do I control this? I've looked at p.TOC1, etc., in the Master Stylesheet I am using, but if the setting to re-position these page ...

Language - Unexpected change

This may be the wrong list to ask, but Word Users may just have an answer.

I have a bulleted list of 9 items which contain printer escape codes. This displays in the .chm perfectly OK, and can be printed from the .chm perfectly OK.

However, when I build a Word .doc file, the 6th and 7th items ...

Re: Missing Snippets in Word 2010

I am using Conditions, and  I had set one of actual snippets to not appear in print, as opposed to setting the condition of the snippet within the Topics. (I can only blame myself for 8 solid hours of using Flare and too much tea!)

While solving one problem, I now have another. Perhaps I'm ...

Missing Snippets in Word 2010

Before I start diagnosing things, has anyone had problems where snippets are failing to appear when a Flare 10.2.2 project is targeted to Word, specifically Word 2010?

Re: Linking to bookmarks within a table

Bless you Nita! I was almost there too!

However, I may have found what could be a minor? bug. Having added the link to the appropriate Bookmark, and even SAVED the Topic, it still only links to the Codes Topic.

Until...... I rebuild the Project. The link will then work within Flare as well as from ...

Linking to bookmarks within a table

I'm having a very senior moment, so hope some kind soul will rescue me. Flare Version 10.2.2

I have a Topic which contains a Table of around 200 special Codes, together with a detailed explanation of how each Code is used.

I then have around 150 individual Language Topics in which reference is ...

The root cause is the large number of help files ...

Re: Expand All

Many thanks - I'll do some more research now you've given me some clues.

The "problem", if that's the correct word, is that the application works almost the same way for both Windows and Mac, and so I to make extensive use of Conditional Text.

Because of the nature of the software, hard copy will ...

Expand All

I'm clearly not using the correct keywords in searching Help, so hope some kind person will oblige.

I've just begun to add FAQ sections to my project, and finally figured out how to add the answer to a question as "expanding text". That bit works fine.

However, I would really prefer to have an ...

Hi MattyQ,

Many thanks for the explanation, though I will have to "translate" the terminology. Being a fairly skilled Word user, Flare is quite a transition.

Re: Change a Paragraph Style to Character Style

I've never heard of a Character Style (which only means I'd like to know more, but Google hasn't heard of them either). Is there a reason you're not using a span for this?

You must have a strange Google as a search for "Word character styles" brought up a claimed 8+ million results. One which ...

Re: Change a Paragraph Style to Character Style

I'm not quite sure what you mean by examples, but will explain the purpose.

I'm illustrating the use of special Codes used within a program.

My main text font for paragraphs is Arial Univers MS.

However I have two character Styles which use Courier New. DBT Code (red) and DBT Text (black). Hence ...

Is there any way to change this?

Tables in CHM files

This question may be somewhat off the wall, but....

I have a need to create a table, which in itself is not a problem. It is currently in Excel.

However, I wish users to be able to select on a specific criteria, and sort on another column.

Is this at all possible in Flare 10 :?:

Has anyone tried Flare with Windows 10 yet?

It may still be early days, but if we are to keep up with changing appearances, one thing to be done will be to revise almost all screen shots of application dialogs.

Preparing for Kindle Mobi.

It's taken a while, but with help from many of you, we've made great strides in producing Kindle mobi files. It's a tad long winded, but basically from Flare 8 we create a Word file, save it as a Web Page (Filtered) and do the final conversion with Calibre. Images come out centred and magnifiable ...

Thankfully if I use Ariel Unicode MS in Flare, they appear in Windows, and port over to the Mac Lion just fine.

Just wish I could key Unicode direct in to Flare as I can in Word.

I believe I may have found the answer at http://tech.karbassi.com/2009/05/27/command-option-shift-symbols-in-unicode/

Which begs another question. Is there a way, as there is in MS Office with Alt+x, to enter a Unicode value into Flare such as 2318 (Mac's Command symbol). That would be Utopia for ...

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I was meaning the symbols or glyphs as they appear on the keyboard, which are also echoed in the menus where the keyboard shortcuts are shown.
