Can you check dependencies for kanchors (left over by a previous author using RoboHelp)?
I'd like to delete them as they're in headings and even the middle of words, which is distracting, but without knowing what may be linking to them, it seems like a bad idea. (If it was a smaller project, I ...

Re: MadCapxxx.js etc - What do they do?
Thanks for the suggestion, but I just deleted everything under Output, compiled and got exactly the same errors re MadCapxxx.js files already existing.

Re: Docking panes behaviour seems to have changed
My Content and Project Explorer panes are where they've always been - but I think that's Flare's default position.
However, my other panes are retained between sessions - both which ones are open and where they are.
So, having got things where you want them, have you tried Window > Layouts and ...

Re: MadCapxxx.js etc - What do they do?
Actually, the MadCapGlossary.js didn't have any dependencies, so I deleted that with impunity.
But please can anyone tell me what the other files do :
MadCap.css
MadCapBodyEnd.js
MadCapEffects.js
MadCapEffectsMenu.js
MadCapUtilities.js
I tried deleting MadCapBodyEnd.js, but the dependent topics ...

Re: Global Project Linking - How to exclude files in the import
Do you have other icon overlays that are conflicting?
My Flare projects are bound to TFS, so I see a tick icon for all the checked out topics in place of the link icon in your screenshot.
Is there a way to toggle which icons are shown or else to spread them out to see them all?

Re: "Failed to copy linked file" error when upgrade to v4
In the project that was newly giving me errors, I've successfully deleted all those SkinSupport files and no longer get compilation errors, so thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Habe you tried entering ‑ ?
How/where?
Pasting or typing in just puts characters in literally (as one would expect). I wondered if it was an ASCII, so tried holding down Alt, but that did nothing at all. Then I tried to define it as a Quick Character (as suggested above), but it only accepts the ...

Incorporating reviewer comments, X-Edit etc
Is anyone using X-Edit yet and if so, can they post any comments, albeit not here, but in the X-Edit bit of the forum? http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewforum.php?f=67

Re: X-Edit: which, when and how
Thanks Adrian. I know the product is new, but it is odd that MadCap's info makes it so hard to understand the details of the different levels of X-Edit and indeed how Full Feature X-Edit differs from Flare itself (other than in price).
Anyway, has anyone given X-Edit to non-authors recently? I've ...

Re: Global Project Linking - How to exclude files in the import
I created a separate master project that only includes those files I want to import. That way I can import the entire project into any other project and not worry about what files will get copied. I wan all of 'em because sharable files are the only ones in the project.
Sounds good. You can still ...

Re: Global Project Linking - can you UNlink?
Thanks, Bea. Why didn't I think of that?
I still had to delete each file from the Content Explorer, compile and check the project in and then create a new flimpfl, but it worked, which is what matters.
I'm still not sure how I imported the extra topics, but I'll be more careful what I click in ...

Re: Inserting Images into Expanding Text
I often put screenshots in drop downs. But I've always found the paragraph spacing between drop down and ordinary text a bit flaky, so I create all the text and insert any images and only then to I format it as drop down. If I have any problems editing it subsequently, I unbind it, make changes and ...

Re: Any way to prevent a topic from appearing in search results?
Snippets are great too - not just for content that appears on more than one page - because they only appear on the Search if/where they are in a topic.
Consequently, they are useful for lists of notes, queries, things to do, text that's been removed but you may want to reuse later. You, the author ...

Global Project Linking - can't UNlink when imports too many
I've been experimenting with global project linking. I successfully imported a couple of topics from one project into another, updated them in the source and saw those changes in the destination. Then I imported just a glossary from the same source into a different destination. Still OK thorough ...

Re: "Failed to copy linked file" error when upgrade to v4
Yes, but I don't use what's in there (as far as I know). The projects which do have a skin support folder were via a previous author and had been partly or wholly developed in RoboHelp, but they were OK in Flare 3.1.
The projects which are OK don't have such a folder and were created from scratch ...

MadCapxxx.js etc - What do they do?
I have just upgraded to version 4. One of my projects now has compilation errors that it didn't before. They are all of the form:
Failed to copy linked file xxx to output. The file xxx already exists.
The files in question are all ones that I wasn't consciously using:
MadCap.css
MadCapBodyEnd.js ...

X-Edit: which, when and how
I've looked around the Flare website, but not spotted clearcut answers to these questions (apologies in advance if the info is actually there):
1. How long does the free trial last?
2. It looks as if new reviewers download the X-Edit family and actually so get the Full Features Mode for the trial ...
