Bumping this, as I have exactly the same problem of page numbers from the Page Layout not showing in PDF output. I'm using Flare 2017 r3 and Windows 10.
I even have another page layout that looks almost identical (different paper size), for which the page numbers DO appear.
Any suggestions as to ...

Re: Clicking dropdown "The value of... 'FMCDropDown' is null"
It is standard procedure to reboot Windows three times if problems occur. That is nothing unusual and part of the cost of doing business with Microsoft.

Anyway, some reassurance from Support:

Re: Clicking dropdown "The value of... 'FMCDropDown' is null"
Thanks.
Installing Windows updates and the consequent reboot seem to have fixed it, so I've added it to a troubleshooting section of our documentation, though I'm still a little nervous (I'm not even certain whether it was the updates, the reboot, or sheer chance that "fixed" it).

Hi Marjorie
Yes, all three problems are on a single machine (a VM).
I agree that it's likely to be something specific to that machine, but the trouble is working out what it might be - and whether any customers might have a similar setup. The issue was actually reported by the project's tech lead ...

I am using MadCap Flare 8.0.2 in Windows 7 to compile html help locally, and then again on a build server.
The output includes images and dropdows which work fine locally and on various machines and VMs where the software and help are installed, using IE7 and IE10 - except we've found one case ...

Re: Hyperlinks between html help projects
Thanks, Amber.
After investigation, I've actually decided to tackle this properly and put everything in one project. There are some hassles with that, but it will be cleaner and leaner in the long run. However, I'm sure your advice will be useful to others.

Hyperlinks between html help projects
I don't think this particular permutation has been asked before.
I am using Flare 8 and I had three projects that built separate html targets, creating three chms.

Thanks for the additional explanation, Lisa. It makes sense (in a not-making-sense sort of way
).

Re: How to change the background image at top of Webhelp?
Thanks. That fixed it, though I'm not sure why, as I just swapped to the image it was already using. I suppose it was a bit like "switching it off and on again".

How to change the background image at top of Webhelp?
I'm using Flare v8 to edit Webhelp while a colleague is away (normally I work with html/chm help).
I need to change the image that is used across the top of the browser tab, between the address/url and the help content. It's the background for the the Back, Previous, Search etc buttons.

Re: Search results not showing in HTML output
Aha. Yes, of course the V6 referred to the Flare version (
obvious when you stop to think about it). When I typed the correct path, it found the folder, so I was able to run the bat and now my searches work.
Thanks

I remember this fix working before, but on my new laptop (Windows 7, 64 bit with Flare 7.2), I can't find RegisterItcc.bat. What now?LTinker68 wrote:See this KB article --> http://kb.madcapsoftware.com/default_CSH.htm#OUTH1003F

It gave me a better botch, so thanks!

Re: Glossary deleted but get error when compile
Thanks, Helen. I rarely use the internal text editor, and when I have, it's only been for htm topic files.
However, I've just looked at the skin and the target, and the latter has a reference to the glossary, which I will remove. Fingers crossed.

Glossary deleted but get error when compile
I have Flare v6 and have deleted the glossary of a project, and checked the following:

But when I try to compile, I get this error:

Re: Printing a TOC
It does seem a major weakness that you can't just right click a TOC and select "Print".
Personally, I take a screenshot of the compiled help, but that is because some of the projects I have inherited do not include the TOC in PDF or Word output, even when I select it in Properties (and I don't want ...

Re: maintaining image quality when reducing size
I don't have any other answer, but a couple of workarounds that I use are to have some graphics either drop-downs or thumbnails. Not quite what you want, but you get more text per screenful and users can choose whether to expand the images.

Re: How to see the difference
This is why we gave up on X-Edit. When (if?) some sort of change marking is implemented, we'll have another look at it; until then it's a mixture of Word output with Track Changes and emails listing changes.

Re: Two flprjs with same project GUID - is it a problem?
Yes, the SourceControlDatabaseRoot was the same, but the dev I was working with changed that to the new location (everything was in a horrible muddle, too complicated to explain). So we're just left with the same GUID. Sounds bad, but it seems to be OK - for now.

Two flprjs with same project GUID - is it a problem?
After copying a project and renaming etc, they both have the same project GUID (when I open the flprj in Notepad).
They are both in TFS source control and I'm using Flare 6.1.
Things seem to be OK (at present), but should I expect problems in future, should I change the GUID manually (how) or ...

Re: Typing French and Spanish accents - how?
No, the Alt key doesn't work, which was why I tried AltGr.
I think these investigations have demonstrated that what I was trying to do is not really viable (and if I'm honest, I'm actually rather relieved).

Re: Typing French and Spanish accents - how?
You can use Alt + character code; e.g. Alt+0226 for â.
Thanks. That concurs with this list: http://tlt.its.psu.edu/suggestions/international/bylanguage/french.html .
However, with Alt (even with NumLock on), I get nothing in Flare. The nearest I can get is NumLock AltGr+0226, but that creates ...

Thanks, though that doesn't sound very easy either, at least, not for whole pages of text.

Re: Typing French and Spanish accents - how?
So I'd have to know all the Alt codes for all the different accents (which don't seem to work on this laptop, even in Word).
That's what I feared - though I was hoping there might be a better way.
Thanks.
