How do you do those in Flare? (I remember another topic that mentioned a way, but it was convoluted, I couldn't get it to work and I no longer remember what it was).Andrew wrote:I suppose you should be able to get the same effect using non-breaking spaces, so perhaps this should be a bug.

Re: Change bars: Are they available in Flare?
I think the absence of automatic change indicators is an even bigger problem if using X-Edit for reviewers - which we've given up using because of this lack of functionality.

Aha. That's great. I've found and removed the hidden dependency to the topic, via the text editor.
I'm still in a muddle with the alias file though - not helped by the fact that this project has two of them (and two header files), and I can only fully test if I've broken it or not once the project ...

Dependencies - not updating?
I'm not sure if I'm missing something, going mad, or have found a bug, but the list of dependencies doesn't seem to be updating. I'm using version 5, with source control via TFS.

Too late for this project, but another time it would be worth considering using Global Project Linking .

I have looked for the script shown above but it does not exist in the content topics for me.
I'm not sure what you mean by "the content topics".

Having got this sorted earlier in the summer, for which thanks, the problem has just recurred in one of the projects that didn't have the problem then (I checked every topic page of all three related projects).

Thanks - why didn't I think of trying that?
It means my other images are no longer thumbnails, but I worked that way pre v5, so it's not a big deal, and certainly far better than having the enourmous bullets.

Swollen bullets (but OK in output) - how to fix them?
I am updating a project created by another author. It was created in Flare v4 and I am using v5, with View > Show > Show All Images as Thumbnails ticked.
All the screenshots show as thumbnails in Flare, but the correct size in the output.
However, the image used for the bullets is the other way ...

Maybe. The project predates my arrival here 2 years ago and the authors here did use RoboHelp around then.Madcap Guru wrote:Where these Robohelp Projects at one time?

In Flare v5, the thumbnail functionality is much improved and can make an excellent compromise for help files, albeit not so great for PDF.KevinDAmery wrote:One good way around this is to hide the image in a toggler or dropdown.

If anyone else gets this problem, apparently it arises when :
These topics were "re-used." These topics were part of a already compiled help file by Flare. The reason why you did not get the errors when compiling with Flare 3 is because Flare 3 was less strict with its XML format.

The mk:@MSITStore:C:\WINDOWS\Help\ bit gets plenty of Google hits, but many of them are very old (one suggests reinstalling IE6!), though several suggest re-registering the hhctrl.ocx file with Windows. But if that was necessary, surely all three projects would exhibit the problem? So, now that I've ...

I've just upgraded to Flare v5 and have 3 projects, with HTML help as the target output.
Since the upgrade, one of them has 16 topics (out of 99) where, if you click on them in the TOC of the compiled help, you get these errors. Oddly, the line and character numbers quoted in the error are the same ...

I don't think there's anything technical to stop you importing from child to parent. However, in all but the smallest projects, that could get very confusing.

The only way I can get it to work is to change the suffix from CHM to anything else. I then zip and email them, with instructions to unzip, save to local drive with suffix amended to CHM and that usually works.
Good luck.
Good luck.

The installation of X-Edit itself has improved and slimmed down since its first release (menioned in other topics on this forum), so I'm not sure that's a show-stopper for those who already have dot net 3.
However, you're not necessarily missing out. X-Edit could be so good, and I've had no problem ...
