Resources/Images folder

We currently have all of our images - about 500 of them - in one folder but that folder is not Resources/Images. Some questions:
1) Is there an advantage in having our images in Resources/Images?
2) If so, what is the best way to move them over? Is it okay to rename Resource/Images to Resources ...

Re: Flare 3.1, Flare 4, Analyzer 1, Analyzer 2

thanks all, taking what you have all said in - i think we will use Flare 3.1 with Analyzer 2 and then move up to Flare 4 when the response time problems have been solved with Flare 4 (but that' s another issue - see, http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... =13&t=7116)

Re: filelist.xml files

The reason I think (thought) these files were something to do with Flare was that when we moved the images listed by filelist.xml to the main images folder and deleted the filelist.xml file, Flare removed the topic(s) using the images as well - very strange. Anyway, we have sorted it out now ...

Re: Flare 3.1, Flare 4, Analyzer 1, Analyzer 2

As far as I know Analyzer 2 uses a different database engine that is incompatible to Analyzer 1 (despite both being MSSQL derivatives).

But does this matter for just the 'analysing' . Is it okay for one person to run Analyzer 1 and then another to run Analyzer 2 on the same project at different ...

Flare 3.1, Flare 4, Analyzer 1, Analyzer 2

Hi, we have 5 writers working on the same project and we are all using various combinations of Flare 3.1 - Flare 4 and Analyzer 1 - Analyzer 2 - does anybody know of any potential problems with this? More specifically, is it okay to use Analyzer 2 on a Flare 3.1 project while others in the writing ...

I'm not sure - they seem to have a function in Flare. Has anybody else seen these sort of files within the project?

Copy/move/delete of multiple topics

Easy one: Is it possible to copy/move/delete more than one topic at the same time while still getting the option to update the links.

filelist.xml files

I am not sure if this is a Flare thing or something that has come across from when we imported the project - but I have seen xml files in various places in the content called filelist.xml. These files are alongside a set of image files, typically called, image001, image002, and so on. Inside ...

When to use the various condition out techniques

It is possible to:
* Condition out from the source
* Condition out from the TOC
* Build different TOCs

Does anybody have a view on when to use which method?

Re: Flare 4 slower than Flare 3.1

Something else I could add that might help: I have both Flare 3.1 and Flare 4 installed at the same time. I also just looked and I have both .NET 2.0 SP1 and .NET 3.0 SP1 installed. Could two versions of Flare plus two versions of .NET be causing problems. One of our colleagues was getting speed ...

Numbered prefixes on folder names

We have a very large project structured in a similar way to the software application menus. We use numbered prefixes on the folder names to keep the folders in a particular order - for example, 10_Trading, 20_Explorer. The problem of course is that the prefixes go through to the output on the ...

Re: Flare 4 slower than Flare 3.1

I've experienced slow navigation/selecting with keyboard and the mouse and any typing. When typing and selecting, it takes between 1-3 seconds for a response.
I'm using the following: Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP3, Dell PC, Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz, 2.0GB RAM, 40GB hard drive with 6GB free ...

Re: Flare 4 slower than Flare 3.1

I'd be really grateful to get some more tips here - basically, we can't use Flare 4 until we have sorted this out. The information I have given already points to something in Flare 4 rather than our computer set up.

Re: Flare 4 slower than Flare 3.1

Two things come to mind, first is real-time virus scanning. Depending on how often Flare access a file, for example those in the Analyzer folder the virus scanner takes a look at what just happened. Some scanners are more intrusive than others. I use McAfee on mine.
Second thing is .NET runtime ...

Re: Flare 4 slower than Flare 3.1

I am running Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
T7500 @ 2.20 GHz
2.19 GHz, 3.50 GB of RAM
This should easily be enough - but Flare 4 is too slow for me to use. It hesitates every 3rd click. Flare 3.1 is fine.
There must be more to this issue. I don't understand.
By the way, I am running Windows XP ...

Re: Flare 4 slower than Flare 3.1

Interesting to read the various responses - clearly there is an issue. For me, saving is fine - it is everything else: scrolling, typing, selecting, and so on. It is typically, first action okay, second action okay, third action slow responsiveness. It is certainly a Flare 4 issue because a) my ...

Re: Flare 4 slower than Flare 3.1

Not a reply - just some more info.
I just monitored Task Manager while working with Flare and it is fluctuating between 2% and 17% CPU. Soon as I start using it, it flies up to around 17%. This seems way too much. Also, by the way, the project is a large one - about 2000 topics but I would hope that ...

Flare 4 slower than Flare 3.1

Flare 4 seems to be slower than Flare 3.1 - more accurately, I would describe it as unresponsive. I click around the topics, expand a couple of folders and so on, and every third click or so there is a slight delay. It is the same with the command menus, when editing, and in the scroll menu. I have ...
