Re: Hyperlink to another PDF

Unless it's a setting in the PDF reader. I did a quick check in Acrobat and didn't see anything relevant.

Are you opening the first PDF through the browser or by double-checking on the file in a shared folder? If you're doing it through the browser and you have the browser set to open links in ...

That's how I had set them up so apparently, the answer is no. :-(

Hyperlink to another PDF

I have two PDF files that have hyperlinks between them. The problem I'm experiencing is that when you click on the link, it doesn't launch a new Acrobat window, it replaces the existing document with the linked one. Is there any way to change that?

Re: Anyone use a pdf link to the printed version of their build?

You could add a hyperlink to the PDF (saved anywhere you want in your project) available in the footer/masterpage. the madcap help does this for accessing their pdf manuals.

if you wanted to build your pdf and publish it to an external location ...

Re: Error processing SVG file

Well, I talked to Madcap technical support and it turns out this is a bug. It has been logged as #45913. The problem is due to an error Flare displays during the build process as opposed to any problem with the actual output, which seems fine. They are looking into the cause of it.

Re: svg images

The problem seems to be something with the original .vsd file. If I create a new file, copy and paste the old information into the new file and save it, then I don't have the problems with saving the drawing as a .svg file. It may have been that there was a compatibility issue caused by creating the ...

Error processing SVG file

I created an SVG file from a Visio drawing. The drawing uses shapes from a supplier's library of computer equipment. I can save the image out just fine with no error messages from Visio but when I go to add it into the topic or render the target (in PDF), I get a message from the SVG Processor ...

Re: How to override default heading level 5 features

If you had a completely blank stylesheet, none of the heading levels would page break by default; so I'd guess there is a setting in there somewhere.

It might be an idea to open your stylesheet in text mode, and search for page-break or h5 to see what you find.

I did. There was none. I did ...

Re: How to override default heading level 5 features

Did you make sure you were changing the correct stylesheet medium? (default vs. online vs. print)

It was in the print medium. I did find another work around. There are two heading levels, an h4 followed by an h5 then a table. So I put a set of <div></div> tags around the two heading levels and ...

How to override default heading level 5 features

The default setting for the h5 tag is to include a page-break before the heading level. The problem is that I don't want to automatically have a page break before every h5 heading. I tried changing the page-break-before setting in my stylesheet from default to auto . Unfortunately this did not have ...

Re: svg images

So, I've read the information on how to get the arrow heads to display (adding the overflow="visible" option to the marker tags). That appears to work just fine (thanks, wbrisett, for the tip).

My problem is that when I create a drawing in Visio, it's placed on an 8.5" x 11" 'page' so when I save ...

Re: Creating a help file for use in Excel

You could insert a hyperlink in Excel that pointed to a WebHelp or HTML Help file, but you'd have to install that output on the user's computer, or have the hyperlink point to a WebHelp output hosted on your public web server.

That's fine. We'd have to provide them with the macros for Excel ...

Missing character styles in word import

I have been trying to import some Word files into Flare but when I try to map the styles in Word to the ones in Flare, some of the styles that should be available in Flare aren't showing up.

Re: Creating multi-column topic

You don't specify it on the content...you just have to size the box so that the only thing that can fit in there is the heading. It is a less-than-optimal workaround. I am only using it for my Index and Glossary. If you have to use it for multiple topics and some topics have a 1-line heading and ...

Re: Creating multi-column topic

Word doesn't accept two body frames in a page layout, so that option is out. Others suggested putting the heading directly in the page layout. It seems like I tried that and it didn't work, or at least the heading didn't appear in the generated output, but you could give it a try -- I may have done ...

Creating multi-column topic

I am converting a Word file to Flare. In Word, the text is put into a two column layout. I want to try to duplicate this in Flare for a print-only project. I figure I'll need a new PageLayout with two columns like what is used for a Glossary. However, I want the heading to flow across the entire ...

When it comes to tables, the biggest headache I have is trying to get a table to fill the width of a printed page and be able to adjust the column widths. Re: Non-breaking space in a variable

I tested putting one in the variable and it seems to work in the WYSIWYG view, but you'll have to test it in the output. To insert the non-breaking space in the variable definition, I held down the ALT key and typed 0160 using the number pad on the right side of the keyboard. I don't think it works ...

Okay, I just tested the torn edge/drop shadow effect in Madcap Capture 5 (trial version). It sucks.

That is NOT what a drop shadow on a torn edge should look like. It doesn't treat the torn edge as an object to apply the shadow to. It's applying it to the un-edged image. I had started ...
