Re: Torn edge effect
Nick, open the image's File Properties (Ctrl+Shift+P). Switch to the Edge Effects tab. There you can select the "Torn" edge effect and play around with it (though I don't think you're likely to achieve a torn edge as nice as SnagIt's). I think you can also apply a shadow effect to the edge, but do ...

Re: Importing older Robohelp files with hpj extension
It does now, but I think when I first did this Flare was on version 4 and it didn't have that option, hence the need to get the plug-in.

Re: Importing older Robohelp files with hpj extension
There might be a very simple solution to the problem:
(I know because that's how we did it)
You use RH to produce a WebHelp . There should be a .hhp file in the output folder - that one you can import into Flare: html_help_project.png

Re: Importing older Robohelp files with hpj extension
Surprisingly it was X5 (I found out when I had a chance to go into the program). Our initial efforts to do a CHM build were not effective as we couldn't find any temporary html files or .hhp files. Finally, we ended up calling support and after having us download some plugin and consulting with ...

Re: Help with "mini-glossary"
is this for print or web output? for print, you can just have the glossary terms be in-line or in a footnote (or something similar to that) and it will only display the glossary terms that are used. for web output, i'm not sure if it's possible to "condition" certain terms to display.

Help with "mini-glossary"
I have created a global glossary file that has all the glossary terms used throughout our doc set. For the largest of our documents, it can be used as is because pretty much everything in the glossary, appears in that project. However, I have lots of smaller projects that only use a small fraction ...

Re: Duplicate styles
Okay, dumb question here, but how did you achieve the drop shadow on your torn edges? Did you use the Madcap Capture program or was it something else?
That looks like a screenshot doctored in SnagIt. Capture might have that capability, too, but I haven't played with it much.

Re: How can I track changes?
Whenever I needed to have reviewers know what was changed, I'd use Adobe's Acrobat Pro to highlight text in the generated PDF. That way I didn't have to do anything to my Flare source files.

Re: General image guidelines for Flare, please
I think the problem is likely that the conversion from Flare to Word is....lacking. I know there are issues I have with converting from Word to Flare (like setting a table row as a heading and not having that retained when converted to xml). Word uses its own method of floating text around images ...

Re: Condition Tag
My guess would be something got corrupted in the .flcts file. Have you tried opening that file in a text editor? I would look for an end tag out of place or a non-standard character. The .flcts file should look like this:

Re: Managing separate topics for PDF and WebHelp
1. i have 300 legacy manuals in individual framemaker files. i'm importing them as "chapters" into my flare project. from what i've seen so far, the content could overlap some. in fact, there is so much superfluous content in the FM files that i'm taking out a lot to make the Flare chapters.

If I tried to add a bookmark to the actual footnote (the spanned tags/text), it caused the table cells to display oddly.

Re: How do I repeat a footnote?
What I ended up doing was making a footnote out of the first occurrence on a page and then just adding the same superscripted number next to the other "references". The xref tag is expecting to cross reference a bookmark or a heading level. The actual footnote is really like a span tag with a style ...

You can also insert a .cur cursor image. Just go to Insert > Add Cursor Image and navigate to where your .cur files are (that's typically in C:\Windows\Cursors).

Index listings of topics with conditions
I ran into a problem recently trying to set up a condition for a topic heading. I needed to be able to "blank out" some text in a heading level for a particular target audience. So I created my condition and applied it to some of the <h2> heading level. In the resulting PDF file, the TOC, the topic ...

Re: curly quotation marks in cross-ref
There are special characters to get the curly quotes. Those are “ and ” for left and right, respectively. I haven't used those codes before, so I'm not sure how well they're supported by all fonts (or all browsers or in print output).

Re: Landscape body but Portrait header and footer
Now I need to figure our how to call these landscape pages in the middle of a Chapter. Any ideas?

Re: Is there a fix to the Analyzer V2.3 text string limitation?
You could change the field definition from a varchar to a BLOB. BLOBs eat everything.
Unfortunately that only makes it worse. The code Madcap is using in its Analyzer is set up to query using equal instead of like. When you change to a BLOB (or in this case a CLOB since it appears they're using ...

Re: Is there a fix to the Analyzer V2.3 text string limitation?
The only possible problem with that workaround is you'll have to do it with every Analyzer database file in every project, and you'll have to remember to repeat the fix if you ever delete the Analyzer folder, since the file is automatically created the next time you open the project but it won't ...

Re: Is there a fix to the Analyzer V2.3 text string limitation?
Did support state if this is a database problem? You may see if you can use SQL Management Studio to locate the table and increase the field size. No idea if that alone will fix the issue.

Yes, I'm replying to my own post. I just got off the phone with tech support (on another issue) and asked about this particular bug. It hasn't been resolved yet and is marked as under consideration for the next release.
