Is there a fix to the Analyzer V2.3 text string limitation?
I use Analyzer V2.3. The problem I've had since I first started using it is that the database has a text string limit of 4,000 characters and I have a number of lengthy <pre></pre> sections where the text inside the set of the tags exceeds the 4000 character limit. I reported it as a bug (#27635). I ...

Re: Duplicate styles
Analyzer scans the project as a whole; it doesn't evaluate styles based on which target you're about to build, or even which target is your default target. So it doesn't know that you have two identical styles in the default medium because there's a slightly difference to them in the print medium ...

Re: Duplicate styles
That's what I was trying to say initially. I only need the styles different in the print medium so, while they look identical in the default medium, they are different in the print medium. That difference alone is not enough for Analyzer to say that pre.ascii_dump_6pt is different than pre.ascii ...

Re: Duplicate styles
The problem I've noted with the Analyzer (V2.3) is that I have a lot of styles that are the same in the Default medium but only differ in the Print medium and the Analyzer sees all of them as "duplicate".
I could see it mentioning that if the styles defined in the print medium exactly matched ...

Re: View Links vs Show Dependencies
At first, I also missed the old Show Dependencies, but I soon got used to the Link Viewer.

View Links vs Show Dependencies
We just upgraded to Flare V6 and I noticed that they have changed the Show Dependencies feature to a Link Viewer window. I used the Show Dependencies because we have an very large number of images that have been changing a lot. The images have a numbering convention used in the file name that I have ...

how can i make sure that all of my topics have the master stylesheet applied to them?

Re: Selecting among Page Types for different Left pages
Okay, color me confused. How do you "override the default value in the variable set by modifying its value in the target."
I tried the variable thing with the Page Layout headers and footers. I have a project with (so far) 16 different targets. They represent different versions of our product that ...

Re: PDF output images are too large...
Hi Peter,
I just wrestled my way through this exact problem. What you want to do is set a style for images that has max-width set to a sensible value for print (not pixels) and set max-height to auto. This doesn't affect the aspect ratio. I don't think the Flare CSS editor will let you set "auto ...

Re: Recommended measurements for images
What I do for printed projects is in the stylesheet for the print medium is to set the max-width to whatever width it is I've decided is best for the printed page (I don't actually change the image itself, just how it renders in the printed output). I also prefer placing my images inside a specially ...

Re: Change bars: Are they available in Flare?
With CMS and a good tool that can ignore white space changes, it should, theoretically, be possible to come up with a means of auto-generating change markup in an output. I have yet to see that anyone's come up with such a beast.

Re: Word Count?
Yeah, I have a bug report in because Analyzer keeps flagging broken links to files that have really long <pre> </pre> sections in them. The first time I noticed it, I dutifully went in and "fixed" the links. Analyzer was happy....for about 5 minutes. Then it started reporting the "broken links ...

We use it both as online help and customer documentation (PDF) but also for internal build and test procedures for our products (in PDF format). For one (and why only this one, I don't know) they decided they also wanted to have a checklist to verify the guys putting the hardware/software together ...

Re: Change bars: Are they available in Flare?
Frankly, I don't bother with trying to style something in Flare. We have the full version of Adobe Acrobat so I just use the highlight tool to highlight text (this allows me the option of only highlighting a few words in a paragraph rather than a whole paragraph). Then I use the line tool to draw a ...

Re: One glossary term, multiple definitions
When citing references where there are multiple entries for a given year, you suffix (a), (b), etc.
That sort of thing would work, surely?
I'd also be interested to find out if there is a convention for such duplicates.

You definitely don't want to create duplicate entries because it would indeed confuse Flare.

One glossary term, multiple definitions
One of the unfortunate things I have to deal with in the industry where I work is using the same three letter acronym to mean several different things. Within the same document I need to have separate definitions for an acronym depending on where and how it's being used. I had initially tried using ...

Re: MasterPage, PageLayout, PDF
You could try creating a new Page Layout (Go to Project > Add Page Layout ). Choose ChapterResizable.flpgl if you want to have the offset for binding (i.e. shifted to the right on a right-hand page or to the left for a left-hand page to allow room for binding). Choosing NormalResizable.flpgl will ...
