I was using Flare as an HTML processor from Frame, but after the Roadshow, was inspired to work in Flare natively. Now, I'm trying to produce Frame/PDF from Flare and running into some issues.


In the original Frame, I had tables with headings that were rotated 90 degrees - to fit the page width ...

I figure I should post a follow up in case anyone else runs into this problem... it turns out that an out-of-date Remote Desktop was interfering with the clipboard. Windows Update fixed my problems. Weird, huh?

How do I specify the Document Properties (specifically, the Title field) in the Word Output Target? I can't find this in the online help or UI...

Halp!

I took a chainsaw (internal text editor) to my stylesheet and wacked out a bunch of stuff yesterday. Now, when I build, weird things are happening to my output:

It appears that the font color changes wherever there is a class change (keyword or p class), but ...

I just renamed some conditional tags and now it appears that all my conditional text and file settings are GONE. Is this unsupported? If so, a confirmation prompt would have been nice. How can I get them back?

Since upgrading to 6, I've been having this problem off and on when I copy stuff from Flare to the Clipboard. Flare crashes and I get the "Report to Microsoft" dialog. I just tried to run Capture Region with Capture to take a screenshot of the error box and I get the same error "Exception: Requested ...

When I delete a file from the Content or Project Explorer, Flare goes out to lunch (not just coffee) - even after doing it's dependency check.

(I'm working locally, not over a network....)

Am I the only one who experiences this?

If it worked like Update Cross References currently works, you would get a dialog with all the cross-references. You could then pick and choose which ones to update. No?

Why not what I suggest - have the process be a "manual automatic" update - select Tools > Update Cross References on the TOC?

Even Word has this functionality...

I have a nice TOC, but then I go and change the text in some of the headings in the linked topics. How do I get the TOC to reflect the new text? I figured I could just open the TOC and select Tools > Update Cross References ...

I had to add a new paragraph style to my Frame project (copied and modified an existing style). The style change is not getting picked up when I reimport to Flare. I think I modified the Stylesheet (again, copied and modified an existing style) and mapped the new Frame style to the new Flare style ...

It wasn't automatically, but the engineer figured it out.

Our PM wants the (Flare WebHelp format) help to be available on the Start menu and the installation engineer is wondering what icon to associate with the help. We have a little Word/HTML icon for Word-based HTML and a PDF icon for the PDF versions. For example:

I like this (elegant!) solution, but it's a little beyond me to implement (for something that's not at the top of the page). I decided to add extra headers and conditionalize them for online only.

I'm tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to increase the height of the Toolbar at the top of my WebHelp.

With the default skin, I get:
default.jpg

When I use the futuro skin, I get:
futuro.jpg

This height works nicely with my logo, so I check the skin to see what they're doing. It ...

I upgraded to Flare 5 and my online help (WebHelp for Silverlight app) stopped working. It appears that there is a new file, index.mcwebhelp in the webhelp output that Microsoft doesn't like.

I think Windoze was confused. I rebooted and all seems better now. I wonder if perhaps there was too much on the clipboard. If that was the case, maybe Capture's error message should indicate something like that?

I was humming along, capturing images - I think there were 19 on the clipboard. I tried to run another "last capture region" and got an error and Capture crashed with an unhandled exception.

Restart (nothing on the clipboard). Now when I try to capture a region, it seems to work (I get the OK ...

Madcap knows about this issue. I went though this with them in January. I believe the bug number is 23624.
