Re: How do I put a variable in a glossary definition
I'm fairly certain that you can't use a variable in a simple glossary term that relies on the Text option -- it seems that you can only enter text in the UI. But to work around that, you could create a topic for each definition and use the Topic option in the glossary term properties window (double ...

Re: Integrating Flare with Drupal
Disclaimer: I'm no expert on Drupal.
Our Web Team wrote their own importer in PHP, which seems to be what many Drupal developers wind up doing. According Drupal, there's a modules for importing HTML, but that's about all I know on the topic.
Thanks,
Kristen

Re: Adding a symbols as glossary terms
Another option is to use the Alt key + the Number Pad to enter symbols. For example, Alt-0174 inserts the ® symbol. Here's a random reference to Windows Alt Key Codes.

Re: Upgrade to Flare 11.0.1 subversion & performance issues
It's probably wishful thinking, but I'm beginning to suspect that a number of these Flare+Source-control-hanging issues may all be traced back to the same root. I don't have the 'bad performance' issue, but I'm realizing that once Flare goes sideways, I immediately kill it rather than trying to ...

Re: Flare 11 hangs when a project is bound to TFS
It's hard to say whether your problem is related to the source control+Flare hanging issue I'm experiencing, but you can look in your Windows Event Viewer and see if there are any interesting errors around the time that Flare hung.

Alas, no. We use a few different tools for image clean up, but not Capture. GNU Image Manipulation and Paint are probably the most used.

Re: Page layout background image resized in Flare 11
Nita, you're a rock star. Thanks so much for this tip. This may account for some of the strange behavior we're seeing, for sure. The Flare help doesn't the mention the threshold at which an image is considered low DPI, but if this is part of the problem, I'd imagine the threshold is someplace around ...

Re: Page layout background image resized in Flare 11
At the risk of sounding crazy, I'm going to suggest that Flare 11 handles image resolution inconsistently. Our results have been inconsistent, but we've noticed that sometimes, some of our PNG images are the wrong size. In some cases, they are much bigger while in others they are much smaller (I'm ...

Hi,
There's a similar thread where Dave Lee suggests generating the Word target and using Word's 'compare' function to mark the differences. The Flare help says this isn't supported directly in Flare.
Thanks,
Kristen

Re: Changes not saved? (Flare 11)
It can happen when you switch between the text view and an 'editor' view (e.g. XML editor, stylesheet editor).
For example:
1. You make changes and save the file in text view.
2. You switch to the XML editor.
3. After switching to XML editor view, the tab title changes to display a * (asterisk ...

HI Tom,
You can try fiddling with the Anchored Frames with Images options on the last window of the Import FrameMaker Documents wizard. They're explained here:

You can configure whether Flare displays certain warnings in the build log; it's under File > Options > Build :

Re: CSS Not applied to Topic frame
How are you opening the target's output (which I'm assuming is HTML5)? If you're going into the Content folder in Windows Explorer and opening individual files, you'll get the behavior you describe in #2. Open the file listed in your target's Output File field (on the General tab). By default, it's ...

This came up yesterday in a different thread . Flare doesn't directly support this, since it needs to be implemented in the system that's hosting your online content. We don't use Pulse, so I'm not sure whether it supports your case. Some sort of authentication mechanism will need to be in place ...

Re: Integrating Flare with Drupal
I wish I had something helpful to share with you. My best information is that they're using a 'parser' to pull apart our tri-pane HTML5 output so that it's in a format that Drupal can handle. It's rather brittle at the moment, so we're investigating simplification, including using the 'no skin ...

Re: Must eliminate blank pages
Assuming the blank pages you mean are the ones that appear at the end of a chapter in a PDF, then you want to edit your ToC book entries. On the Printed Output tab of the ToC entry's properties, in the Chapter/Page Layout Break section, select Enabled from the the Auto-end on 'left' page field. And ...
