What version of Flare are you using? in Flare 11, I can add index levels as deep as I want -- and deeper:

I'm not sure what you can do to reinstate the entries you lost in the conversion. You could maybe diff the two indexes to figure out what's missing, but putting them back ...

Re: Perferred Browser
In my experience, Chrome works better than Firefox in general. I used to be a big fan of Firefox, but ended up switching to Chrome due to some bugs, performance issues, and constant updating. But that was awhile back, and Firefox may have gotten back to their old level of quality at some point.

Over in this thread , Nita shared a link to the Flare 11 doc that explains that runtime merging isn't supported with the TopNav output:

MadCap Tech Support clarified some things about this issue- there are two different logs:
The build log is target-name.mclog
The publish log is target-name.log.zip
The Upload Log File option controls whether the target-name.log.zip is published to your destination. The option isn't supposed to ...

Hi Stacey,
i just replied to your other post here, and I'm thinking that this is the same issue that's causing the "Object reference not set..." error. So the problem might be in your target. You might be able to add a few blank lines to the end of the file (opened in a text editor) and see if the ...

Re: PDF Preview error: Failed to compile document
This is bubbling up from .NET (it's a null reference error). We've had to get help from MadCap Tech Support upon occasion. In many cases, once we identified the file causing the issue, we've been able to fix it by adding blank lines (returns) to the end of the offending file. If you can't figure out ...

You can define a new paragraph style that includes an autonumber with the mc-autonumber-position set to inside-tail. Give it an offset to separate it from the Article #: span:

mc-auto-number-offset: 1.00em

I just ran into this today in Flare 11. It seems to happen regardless of the target type -- PDF and HTML5 in my case. I logged it with MadCap too.joele wrote:I have observed the following behavior in Flare 11:

This is a great question -- the way you get to the source control UI changed between 10 and 11, and in 11, it isn't shown by default. Try View > Source Control Explorer (in the ribbon view).

Re: Problems resolving conflicts with SVN
I don't think I've run into this specific problem, but I sometimes see inconsistent behavior when using Flare's source control integration with Subversion (particularly with add and delete). I think the consensus at this point is that when Flare seems to be having trouble with Subversion, use ...

Re: Any value in indexes for WebHelp or HTML5 outputs?
I think it's not possible to add an index to HTML5 Top Nav, if you mean an index mechanism that the user can search and scroll through, as one sees in Tri-pane. I tried experimenting with adding an index "page" to Top Nav output but didn't like the results.

In our case, we integrate with Subversion. Previously, we were attaching to it using SVN+SSL, and performance was an issue. We changed our authentication method to LDAP, and saw major performance improvements.
Thanks,
Kristen

Is there any way to make variable values, instead of variable names, appear in the search hit titles?

This has stymied me in the past as well. Look farther down the menu and to its right-most side -- you'll see a little cog icon and the Options label (next to Exit).

Yes, that's about right (but it's not for tri-pane).
I was trying to distinguish between tri-pane and TopNav types of output, but obviously didn't manage it.

why create HTML targets that don't include the skin?
