Gary, be sure you also require that IE8 NOT be running your help in Compatibility View, which essentially turns IE8 into IE7. This setting won't even recognize many of the long-established CSS3 specifications that other browsers do, let alone the anticipated HTML5/WebHelp 2.0 features.

Here's what I submitted as a bug report, based on initial results in testing a merged HTML5 output:

Re: Mini-toc proxy in topic/ Flare 8/ HTML5
No, Flare considers the mini-TOC to be TOC-concentric only (whereas RoboHelp considers it to be topic-centric only). The MiniToc Proxy dialog reads "that shows headings below the current topic ." That's not headings inside the current topic, but under the current topic."

Re: Applying one character style on top of another
Flare will "layer" your styles so that certain words will carry multiple formats.
CSS, on the other hand, will not; it considers a style assignment as a "one-or-the-other" format.
Both logical, only different.
Good luck,
Leon

Re: Convert WebHelp to HTML 5
You won't actually be "converting" WebHelp to HTML5; you'll just create a new HTML5 target and make that the Primary target. (You'll still be able to produce WebHelp anytime you want to.)

New Flare user (last May with Flare 7), limited usage of Ribbon in Word, now a Ribbon convert (primarily because of the Quick Access toolbar). Frankly, if the QA toolbar were available with the menu bar, I might not have switched!

Re: Flare 8 Niggles
Yes, Dave, they're "stored in" the .flprj file, but they cannot be manually added to the .flprj file.
Well, they can, but Flare won't acknowledge and implement them if it didn't put them there itself, through the UI. Believe me, I tried that!

Re: Justify ul, li, bulleted list in the stylesheet editor
I'm thinking you might want to do the li styling for this. The reasoning? You might want to use specific styles for the overall ul format, but then tailor the li styles with complex selectors based on where the list is used (inside a Note para, inside a table, inside a drop-down, as a sublist, etc ...

Personally, the idea of "moving tools" in the UI? I just don't get why anyone needs to do that! :? But then, I started at DEC using an early markup language, DSR-Plus (aka, Runoff) on a black (actually, a nice shade of teal) screen. But I do like the Quick Access toolbar!

Yuck! Who knew?
All the more reason to create your own (we had already done that in RoboHelp, and it carried over to the Flare conversion). That's why it all looked unfamiliar!
Flare's got some 'splaining to do!

I'm still using a 2005 book by Richard York, Beginning CSS: Cascading Style Sheets for Web Design.
It's surprisingly still current as to CSS3 content, but I see there's a revised (2011) edition available (thru Amazon).
Good luck,

It isn't, sorry. My enhancement request from April 2011 (to offer two mini-TOC options, one for external TOC items, another for internal headings) was not addressed in Flare 8. Perhaps if others bombarded Flare with requests, we might see a resolution? Hint, hint, hint...

Re: Change "Web Help" Title In Output Window?
Probably the long-standing Windows/HAT issue, in which you have to pull a switcheroo to fake out the system; it doesn't consider case to be a renaming function, and therefore ignores it (for your own good, it thinks).

Inge's correct!
I just ran into the same viewing issue, and the medium switcheroo fixed it. Just remember to switch it back to your original setting afterwards. And maybe report the bug to MadCap, as I'm about to do.
Thx, Inge,
Leon
