Hi all,
I've been testing out the new code snippets in the latest version of Flare (2020). We have customers who want to be able to copy the code from our guides and then into their own text editors, and they want the indentation in the code block to be preserved. Apparently, in YML, the ...

Re: Flare 2019
Two things I've noticed, wonder if there is something I can do:
I like to add the Build icon to the Quick Access Bar. For previous versions, that icon stayed on the Quick Access bar forever--after closing and reopening Flare, it was there. For Flare 2019, I've noticed it disappears when I reopen ...

Auto end on Left page not working
I have PDF targets that begin with a Title Page, a Copyright page, and then a Table of Contents followed by the "regular" topics. I have set the Auto-end on Left Page to disabled for the Contents. However, it is not working: there is a blank page at the end of the TOC, before the first regular topic ...

I see the same thing. I saw it in 12, and I now see it in 13 (Flare 2017, because MadCap must think a lot of their users have Triskaidekaphobia).

Superscript and Subscript grayed out on Ribbon
I noticed that in Flare 12, on the Home Ribbon, in the Font area, that the shortcuts for superscript and subscript are grayed out. I think this worked in 11, though I can't be sure.
I can expand the Font area, which brings up the Font Properties dialog box, and I can apply the superscript/subscript ...

Making a table cell break a long line of text
I have a table that has one column containing long code snippets without spaces. When I print the table, the first two columns are squished to only 2 or 3 characters, making an awful look, and lots of pages.
Is there a way to set a column or cell so that it will break a line after a certain number ...

PDF Tagging
We are experimenting with PDF tagging, to make our PDFs 508 compliant.
When we generate a Tagged PDF, each entry in the TOC is tagged as a table. How can we avoid this?

Re: Hanging indents, how?
I want a hanging indent, but I want a box around EVERYTHING, including the text that I've moved to a negative margin.
When I do what Nita says, setting text-indent negative, and the margin-left indented, the box I draw around the paragraph starts at the margin-left value, rather than at the "new ...

Bind then unbind (then Bind) to Source Control
I'm wondering how easy or difficult it is to go back and forth between binding and not binding a Project to Source Control.
We have a fairly large and geographically diverse writing team. So, obviously, we are going to have the necessary project files in Perforce.

This is really nothing more than I can do with Notepad++. Madcap should really add a better search-replace option, where you can actually find a text string and replace it with a Variable.

Re: Flare 11 with Perforce - Performance Question
We are putting the project in source control. That's not the question.
However, just because the files are in source control, that is not the same as using Flare's Bind to Source Control option.
If not bound, then authors check out files (Perforce), work on them and save them (Flare) and then ...

Flare 11 with Perforce - Performance Question
We use Flare 11, and we currently have Perforce. (Side note: it's possible we will be moving to Git/GitHub.)

Upgrading VMware used up my license
I run Flare 9.x on my MacBook laptop, using VMware Fusion. I just did a minor upgrade of my VMware Fusion to 6.0.6. When I then attempted to start Flare, I was taken to the Activation screen. My license was there, but when I attempted to use it to activate, I received an error message that I've used ...

Navigation Pane appears for a moment, then disappears
I am using Flare 9.1.2. I have a target that produces WebHelp. The output generates fine. However, when I open the index/landing page, I see a momentary "flash" of the navigation pane on the left part of the screen (where it should be), and then it disappears, and the index page takes up the entire ...

Thank you for your reply. I was pasting in more than one screen's worth of information, so in order to see the icon, I needed to scroll down. Completely non-intuitive.

Importing text as a table
In Version 6.0, I could select a table (a bunch of rows/columns) from an Excel spreadsheet, and then in a Flare topic, click Ctrl-V to paste the text. Then, Flare would bring up a dialog box, giving me options for how to import the text -- I could then import it as a table (Paste as a Table).

Re: Control Breadcrumbs font and color
MadCap support actually solved the problem for me. Turns out Flare uses the span style to color the text. The default span style in my style sheet was set to black, and the font-family was set to Arial. Thus, black Arial was applied in the output, even though I had set my Breadcrumbs style ...

Re: Control Breadcrumbs font and color
I have them in the default and non-print, duplicate entries, since I couldn't get it to work, I figured I'd try in both. Also, I'm talking only about the text color: the link color, which shows up for the book-level entries, appears in the usual blue (purple for visited pages) that you see for links.

I am having trouble changing the color and font for my breadcrumbs. I have set the parameters as I'd like in the MadCap | breadcrumbsProxy style:

font-family --> Arial; sans-serif
font-size --> 10 pt
I have ensured the setting are in the non-print medium, and that the ...

We recently updated our main stylesheet that we use with all topics for our main deliverable, a WebHelp target. During the update, several new styles were created. Now, we need some sort of usage guide to describe where and why to use each style.

Hi all,

Too many levels in my PDF TOC
I want to only have h1's included in the output --> my target prints directly to PDF. In the MadCap|tocProxy style, I set mc-toc-depth to 1. But the PDF still prints 3-levels deep. What am I doing wrong?
I'm using the TOC proxy in a topic.
