Word Count?
Can anyone tell me if Flare has a feature that lets me count all the words in an entire project?

Re: Page Layout, Decoration Frame, and Styles
I was trying to create a small black border on the right side of the page. But, although the black would appear when I clicked and dragged the decoration frame around the page layout page AND it appeared in the tiny page on the right, it wouldn't show up on the page layout page itself or on the ...

Page Layout, Decoration Frame, and Styles
Several people helped me figure out yesterday that my stylesheet was interfering with applying and seeing color in a decoration frame of a page layout(http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9778). That was very helpful. It was also great creating a decoration frame and applying color ...

Paul,
Thanks for pointing me to that link. I've found it rather challenging working with the page layouts. This was just one of the areas that caused some consternation. I really like that the tool allows single-sourcing, but its layout tools aren't up to speed just yet.

Assigning custom page layouts
I've designed some custom page layouts, but don't know how to assign them to TOC pages. The custom pages don't show up on the Printed Output tab of the Properties dialog. I can see the drop-down for Pate Type, but not for Page Name. Some of my pages may be of the same type, but are copies with ...

Re: PageLayout - Decorations Frame
Okay, so I tried that renaming stylesheet trick and it worked quite nicely. I was able to create the decoration frame and color it black very well.
The nice thing about this test is that it revealed to me a small clue about why my own style sheet wasn't working. The problem is probably related to ...

Re: PageLayout - Decorations Frame
So, close the project in Flare.
I just have the one project.
You said: "Can you just create a clean stylesheet with the same name and drop it into the Stylesheets folder? Do this with the project closed. Then open it and see if the border problem is resolved."
I'm not sure I follow you on this ...

I'm setting it to Solid. I deleted my page and created a new one, then added the Decoration Frame as the first thing. Still shows up as gray.

Re: PageLayout - Decorations Frame
Lisa,
I have the Color field set to Solid and Start Fill is set to Black.
I just deleted the Decoration frame that I had previously created and started from scratch.
I select New Frame > New Decoration Frame Mode. The cross-hair cursor appears.
I click and drag the frame to the size I want.

Re: Page Number Variable Formatting
I selected the variable and then clicked right-align button. I guess you'd call this inline formatting.
I *think* I also tried creating a p.rightAlign style and then applied that style to only that line, but I'm a little unclear about that. I've tried a few things.

Re: PageLayout - Decorations Frame
KGaetz,
The page layout that you shared is close to what I'd like to create, except with the colored bar in a different location. I like your sample. Just wish I could get it to work the way it's supposed to and not with my work around.
Thanks so much for all the assistance.

Re: PageLayout - Decorations Frame
Bob,
I'm using version 4.2.1.
Width = 0.20"
Height = 1060 px
I formerly had both start and end fill set to black. And the preview on the properties page shows up as black.

Re: Page Number Variable Formatting
Update on the above issue. I created a one row table, placed the variable in the table, formatted it the way I like, right-aligned it in the table cell. It works and I'll go with it, but I still wonder why right aligning the text didn't work when it wasn't in a table.

Re: PageLayout - Decorations Frame
I understand. All that is set up correctly. The thing is that when I look at the Decoration frame in the page layout window, the color doesn't even show up there. If I set a Border to a really wide width, and color it black, this thick border is enough to create the colored Decoration I want AND I ...

Page Number Variable Formatting
Having difficulty getting the formatting I'm applying to a page number variable to stick.
I've formatted it to align right, as in the following screen shot:
But then, when I generate the PDF, this is what I get:
Any ideas about how to make it stick?

I have created the Decoration on a First page and have specified that the Background should be black. When I look at the frame in the Page Layout editor, it appears gray. When I click on it to move it, it turns black while it is being moved.

Yes. I'm creating a PDF.

I'm trying to put a black border, about 0.20", along the right side of some section pages (print output), and I've placed a Decoration Frame along the right edge, but can't, for the life of me get any color to fill it. Any pointers?

Quality of Images
I'm using a logo and other images in a Flare project that has PDF targets. Just not sure what the best format (tif, jpg, ???) for imported images. Any suggestions?
Also, wondering if it makes any difference where I resize images: in Flare or in the original app that created the images.
